Half the family went for Obama, the other for McCain. I'm sure they'll start up about that radical socialist Muslim Anti-Christ who is not THEIR President, who will destroy the USA as we know it, steal their 401k's, take away all their guns, etc.

I think I'll just sit there and not say a word.

Just grin from ear to ear.

2. My fundie-Catholic, Rush-listenin', Bush-lovin' aunt was outnumbered
So she won't dare say anything (hee). I'm bringing the pies, and I was really, REALLY tempted to make a sweet potato pie to see if she'd get the reference, but I didn't. :)

11. Please tell me they're in Europe...
5000 miles in the other direction is... here. :scared: We try mightily to maintain a FReeper-free zone hereabouts.

I, too, shall be 5000 miles away from Republican Stepdad, though he's way too moderate to be considered a FReeper: can't stand fundies, doesn't watch Faux, etc.

Normally they'd be in San Francisco--but they're doing Thanksgiving at their condo on Maui.

8. Freeper In-Laws generally prefer to eat with their own families...
something to be thankful for!

We have everybody at Christmas, but
just the old ladies at Thanksgiving...

This year we have four Canadians coming
in for an "American" Thanksgiving...

though I can't, for the LIFE of me, figure
out how this is supposed to be different
from "Canadian" Thanksgiving.

Any pointers, Canadians?

22. HA! I am not cooking squat!
I'm in charge of desserts, so I bought 2 pumpkin pies, an apple brown betty, and a poppyseed roll. And a can of cool whip topping - did you know cool whip now comes in one of those squirt cans? I use the fact that I am the only one who has to "travel" to get out of actually having to cook. It's a pretty good racket, and I milk it for all I can.

I am going to make sweet potato pie for the dinner that I'm having on Saturday with my kids' dad, but that's a little more low key.

What are you fixin'? I hope you all have a nice, relaxing day tomorrow. I'm off for four days and I plan to drink wine and do as little as possible. :hi:

his GF are making dinner for a change. I have done it for the last 5 plus years, since my mom just got sick of it. SInce we usually do Thanksgiving AND Xmas Eve, this is kind of nice! Plus they just got a new big-screen TV, so my son will be in his football glory!

My brother is making turducken, well, deep-frying it in the yard, or something... see here in the cooking and baking group http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=236&topic_id=50489&mesg_id=50489

So all i had to do was make my pumpkin cheesecake pie today (I was off work), and take some goodies for my parents. My husband is making his Greek salad that he makes every year. So no dishes to wash! He usually has to load the dishwasher like 3 times when we have Txgiving. And we didn't have to do our crazy clean-up like we do when we have a lot of company. And I'm off til Tuesday, too!

I had some wine last night, a nice red. It was yummy. Hope you have a great day! :hi:

13. We don't
have any. But if we did I would make sure to print out Obama pictures and have them framed and hanging on the wall in the dining room.

I just remembered.... my husband has an uncle who is positive that Obama is the antichrist - he is not invited... I like to enjoy Thanksgiving. :)

relatives). I'm not married to the person who's relatives they are, and half of them think we are partners, half of them do not. It is very odd. I'm usually with my own family, but circumstances precluded the usual scenario...

I guess I'll have to tell you after the fact...

Edit: Oops! Forgot about my brother (I think he votes R, he has in the past - which always astounds me because he's extremely intelligent... I don't talk politics with him and he's a thousand plus miles away. I miss being with my family for Thanksgiving, because we usually have heated, but civil debates that I can get nowhere else... everything from politics to religion to science to history to literature to societal issues to... you name it. My uncle is the the most fascinating person I've ever had a conversation with, the rest of the family holds a hearty second. I am going to miss the mental volleying tomorrow...

21. No political problem....but
I'm lucky. My immediate family is pretty liberal. Plus, my brother-in-law is a State Congressman (D of course) so he always has interesting and hilarious stories of how politics *really* goes down in our state.

For me, the issue is religion. I'm an atheist. What does the token atheist do when everyone else is gathered round praying fervently to the cloud guy?

Of everyone we are having Thanksgiving with only my MIL voted for McCain (long story - a republican helped her get her US citizenship, so she is extremely loyal to the GOP).
