Can Canned Water Chestnuts sub for Fresh Roasted Chestnuts?
I'm asking because I make a stuffing every year that calls for chestnuts, and suggests I get the roasted, peeled kind that comes in a jar. I can't find that near me, so I use fresh Italian chestnuts, then roast and peel them myself. If anybody's done this, they know it's a major pain in the butt and the shells make my fingers burn and swell.

So I'm not really looking forward to doing this tomorrow, and was hoping someone knew if the canned water chestnuts - like they use for stir-fry would be an okay substitute.

1. I don't think so. They are different things.
The results might be kind of weird.

2. I think they're totally different
The water chestnuts are crunchy and don't taste a bit like the other kind of chestnuts.

4. My sister substitutes water chestnuts for celery, and it's delicious!

6. Worst case scenario, they won't ask me to make the damn stuffing anymore.
