Why is postage so expensive?

I'm mailing 3 packages tomorrow, two of which are quite small, and the total shipping costs are going to be at least 35-40 dollars or so.

For the cheap shipping, not express or anthing.

1. UPS is a bit cheaper for parcels I think

you might consider that.

2. Got to subsidize that third class mail(junk mail)

3. Because the USPS is entirely incompetent...

...and can't manage their money. And with every pay raise they get, the worse their service gets. Because they can.

4. Congress upped the package rates for everyone except the

Big Boys like Time Life, etc.

It's hell on small businesses, and useful rates like book rate were upped too.

6. Prices vary, avoid "Mailboxes Etc", for example.

The markups at different places I've gone vary.

One little independent has great prices on FedEx ground, less than the UPS store, much less than Mailboxes Etc.

If you ship often, shop around.
