6. The courtyard of my neighbor's house.
Cul-de-sac's are supposed to embody everything that's wrong with the suburbs. But I love my little "court", as it's called. There are only three houses on it, and an empty lot across the street that the owner wants to keep vacant. So the neighbor's kids and my grandkids have a nice green field to play in.

No pic...

Our windows were damaged by a tornado back in May and our contractor is finally replacing them. (Can't find fault..he's re-roofed the house and replaced the garage so far. The windows are the last thing to repair).

Drumlins are other depositional features of glaciers. Drumlins are streamlined asymmetrical hills composed of till. The steep side faces the direction from which the glacier advanced, while the sloping side points in the direction the ice moved.

last month. And yes, same city.

I have believed since I fell in love with Seattle 10 years ago, that it was the place I wanted to live the rest of my life. But, while waiting for this election, I started looking into Canada (yes, I can come play. I'm a nurse so I made the number) and Vancouver would definitely be where I would want to be.

39. Red Oak, of undetermined age. It was here when the house was built..1961
that much is obvious from the size of the other trees on the lot, which were planted when the house was built. It saves us on A/C in the long hot season here, as it shades the whole house. That photo is dated Dec 2003; we still have green leaves on it right now.

This neighborhood was built in a somewhat wooded area in the early 1960's and there are lovely large trees scattered about which were actually preserved by the builders. My next door neighbors have two lovely old mulberry trees and all the houses across the street have big live oaks.

We liked this house for the extra room upstairs and location but the tree was what made us actually go for it. If we hadn't gotten this one we would have kept looking in this neighborhood, because of the shade factor.

If we weren't so far south, it would be flaming red.

43. It is magnificent...and it was really wonderful of the builders to leave some of the trees.
Nowadays, it seems the first thing they do is cut down all the foliage and trees on any lot where they are building.
Someone bought this old 1920's house two doors from me. there were three beautiful old trees in front of it. There were always squirrels and birds all over them. The first thing the new owners did - before tearing down the entire lovely house!!- was take down the trees and put them into these three wood chipper trucks that came by to do the job. I was actually in tears, as were several of the other neighbors who saw what was going on.

The word around is that idiot plans on building a McMansion on this lot. The house that was there was so lovely. It only took up about 2/3 of the lot. This guy, I am sure, plans to fill the entire lot with this house. I think the neighbors are trying to start some sort of lawsuit, because what he is planning is not totally within code.

I've thought for years about buying a little chunk of land up there. Almost bought a farm that was next door to the old Reynolds farm, prettiest piece of land I've still ever seen.

But back then, it was affordable, my gosh I can't believe how the amount per acre has increased around there. I wish I had not lost my nerve then.

Well, I am envious of you! Maybe one day we can have breakfast over at the Mill. Have they closed up for the winter yet?

60. If the shade were up, I could see a very old graveyard,
mostly 19th century, with old twisted trees and bushes. It is on a hill across the street, and almost directly level with my 2nd floor home office window. There is an old concrete stairway fron the street level to the top of the hill, with a wrought iron gate at the top.

Kind of relaxing, in its way, and they don't make noise or use parking spaces....
At least not that I know of.

This is our "guard bunny". We have a few wild hares around here, and this one just loves to sit in a small indent on the front lawn and sun itself (though that day wasn't sunny at all). It doesn't flinch while watching the world go by.
