Poll question: Do you feel guilty about any music you like?
Edited on Wed Nov-26-08 09:10 PM by mvd
Some of my guilty pleasures:

new Jonas Brothers
some Britney Spears (I actually like Circus - good comeback after the awful Blackout. I thought she peaked at In The Zone, but Circus surprised me)
some Phil Collins songs
Stella Soleil
Katy Perry
Disturbed (don't usually like this kind of stuff, but it sticks out from the pack when you want to rock out)
Shania Twain
Ashlee Simpson's Beautiful World is actually fun - not album of the year stuff, but I know she's a bad singer, so even liking it even a little qualifies.
there's probably some 70s/80s ballad stuff there that I can't think of - and a couple other artists

Not many others. I'm not guilty about most all of what I like. I was going to put Aly & AJ, but even though they are so directed at teens, their music is excellent pop for all pop fans IMO.

So, I voted "yes - but not much." VERY little compared to my music collection.

2. I'm trying to be like you
I'm almost there, at least. I proudly like some stuff that would definitely be bashed here.

5. even stuff i don't like i don't think is crap either, it's just not appealing to me.
Metallica for instance, i just don't care for it, Scorpions on the other hand i love. My daughter who is 14 is really into german techno---i have no idea why but she loves it, i'm not really a techno fan except for Prodigy.

6. That's how I feel
If I don't like it, it's just my opinion. I believe music is about as subjective as it can be.

8. I'm a little embarrassed to say I'm a Toriphile.
I've been borderline OCD about Tori Amos since her first album came out when I was in high school. I own every album, single, and video she's ever made (or at least all I can get my hands on). It's a little embarrassing because she tends to appeal to women more than men, I think.

9. I seem to like more contemporary female than contemporary male artists
Including Tori - I don't feel guilty, personally.

13. No, why feel guilty UNLESS it's White Supremecist Music
or something EVIL. Most music people feel are "guilty pleasures" are just generally "uncool" in some way, not racist.

So, I do NOT have any of that racist bullshit in my collection, so I'm NOT guilty of any of it. Actually, I've got some vintage lesbian folk music here. :)

Happy Thanksgiving.

You make a good point. Certainly nothing in my collection is racist music, and if I like music, I must think there's something good about it. :hi:

15. I still like 80's "glam" and Bon Jovi. There, I said it.
But only the good glam. Poison, Crue, Ratt, Cinderella, Warrant etc. None of that Winger shit.

17. Gangsta rap, dancehall (e.g. Sizzla), 80's pop... That's about the extent of it.
Most of my music I can listen to without the slightest twinge of guilt, and that's how it should be. Anything else, to me, would be a sign of serious neurosis.

Speaking of which, time to put on some Neurosis... :P

19. Although I was never into the "scene", I do like some of the Disco era tunes.
Barry White, Donna Summer, Bee Gees, Chic, Jackson Five. and of course KC and the Sunshine Band all put out enjoyable tunes. So ya, I'll admit it. I tap my feet when I hear on of those songs on the radio.

26. A bit
I gave up on feeling guilty about the Carpenters once I was able to separate the ghastly, freaky I-married-my-cousin Richard from the divine Karen and I long ago came to terms with my fondness for some less than wonderful Carly Simon records as I think I fell in love with her the first time I saw a picture of her and she sounds as delicious as she looks.

I have an unabashed love for certain JPOP and KPOP girl groups (and only girl groups) that has surprised and dismayed some friends, though. Screw it. Pretty young Asian girls that can sing nice harmonies and have killer, YMO-like technopop backing tracks are what makes the world go around.
