I pay about $39/month for a home phone line that I never use except
to call my cell phone which is always lost. Sometimes I even have to push the button on the land line base to find that phone so I can call my cell phone and find it.

Am I the only one that is this Ditsy? I was thinking of getting one of those Paris Huston covers that is pink with crystals all over it but I don't ever think that will solve the problem.

1. I got rid of my land line about 2 years ago.
Rarely ever used it, so just decided to ditch it.

Just have a cell phone now.

I love it.

7. Got rid of our Land Line two months ago...
We have never done anything so painless...even though we had the LL number for 30 years..

Takes about one afternoon to call all and give out cell numbers...

2. I have a landline, VOIP and we have two cell phones
My landline costs me $20/mo-that's for no frills. My VOIP is $28/mo with unlimited long distance. Our cell phones cost us about $10/mo each-prepaid. We don't use our cell phones just to yak but for emergencies only. The advantage to my landline is when power goes out it still works. My DSL is $30/mo. We used to spend about $120/mo on one phone, DSL and long distance. Now we spend about $80/mo for two phones, DSL and unlimited long distance.

3. Get one of those key chain thingies
Attach it to your phone. Then when you lose the phone, hit the "finder button" on the main unit. Lots cheaper than the land line.

4. That's pretty funny.
:)

I don't really have a right to laugh, though - I have to put together an elaborate system of "this goes here", or else I'm searching through pockets of whatever it was that I might have worn for the past week in order to find what it is that I'm looking for, only to find it sitting next to the TV.

5. We recently changed from landline to Magic Jack phone
Phone service is now only $20 a year. You need cable internet to use Magic Jack (it is similar to Vonage only it has fewer features).

21. Magic Jack works pretty much like a normal landline
except it's plugged into the USB port of your computer, so you can only make calls with the PC on. Other than that, you can plug any regular phone into it and it works just great. You get a phone number just like you would with your local Baby Bell company.

Now having said that, Magic Jack is still a "new" company so they don't have phone numbers available everywhere yet, so if you don't live in or near a major metropolitan area, you might not get a local phone number. Which doesn't matter when you call out since you wouldn't pay long distance charges anyway. But anyone calling you on a landline might not be so lucky, even if they're your next door neighbor.

I've had one for about a year & a half and I laugh my ass off when Comcast sends me all the spam telling me how $40 for their VOIP service is such a "bargain".

10. The point is i can never find my cell phone. It is so small and gets lost
in my pocket book or somewhere in the house I'd just rather pay the $30 just to be able to find it. I think if I have to call #911 or something and my phone is laying in the middle of a pile of papers and I keep going over it and not seeing it I will be in trouble.

Once when I just had a land line I lost it and used the land line beeper and the phone was in the bottom of the laundry basket.

I'm just a ditz and I have to pay a little more because of it.

11. maybe the answer is a phone with a cord
If it's not cordless, you probably will have a harder time putting it in the laundry basket.

It's been known to disappear between the sofa cushions, or wind up in the bottom of shopping bags. I once found it in a Tibetan singing bowl: don't ask. I have no more idea of how it wound up there than you probably do.

My cell has an alarm clock, and I have it set to go off at 5:30 pm every day. That way if I lose it, I just have to stand in the center of my apartment (it's a small place) at 5:30 and listen intently.

I still have the friggin' land line, which is just awful. The quality is terrible, and no one ever calls me on it but telemarketers and bill collectors: I seem to get calls for every debtor in the state of Florida who shares my last name, which is a common one. As soon as I can find another DSL provider, AT&T will be history.

eta: you could always try calling your cell from Skype on your computer. It's a free service.

15. I don't have a landline
but i lost three phone the past four years..left one in a cab, and dropped two phones in the toilet. That's when I started putting my cell in pocket instead of clipping it to a belt. I am just glad they are getting cheaper!

19. Use SKYPE instead.
$20.00 a year - I downloaded it when I lost my cell.
It's worth the $1.75 a month. http://skype.com/welcomeback/

20. Costs as much for my landline + DSL as it does for cable itself.
Comcast sucks, and there's nothing wrong with DSL. More secure and the overall speed is faster due to having a dedicated line from the central hub; not shared on a segment with how-many-would-we-know people....

23. Perhaps it is time to find a cheap prepaid
toss away cell phone, with a monthly fee of $5 in minutes, or something. Tether it to the fridge and use it to locate the other one.

cheaper
