So look what I went and bought today...
I was in Chicago today for Thanksgiving, and my nephew had 2 of these, and he and Uncle Retro were doing some jamming together.

I really liked the sound and said so, and he told me I could have it for a sweet price, so on impulse, I wrote him a check and now I own a Crate XT120R amplifier.

Which is nice since I have a Gibson Les Paul Custom guitar but no amp. And I haven't really played in over 10 years, but what the hell.

Maybe it's time for yet another mid-life crisis. This time a band! :9

Anyone want to jam? :headbang:

and just for fun, me when i was the same age as my nephew, about 25 years ago, in the studio in Chicago during a recording session...

and for you gearheads, the black Les Paul (upper right) is the only one I still own. (and the white Marshall 100w head is on top of a Crate 212 *I* owned back then)

37. Heh. If he can't make it, I've got my cheap-ass starter bass
and years of singing bass along with a modicum of piano/keyboard experience has taught me at least the basics of how a bassline can work.

If I have the money I'm gonna overhaul it though. I'm hoping to replace the P type pickup with a better one, then add a J type below it. And I was gonna replace the pickguard with circuit board and try to make it look as geeky as possible. I'm still debating on what to call that style once I do it though... either a geektar, or a nerdcore guitar. :P

39. Yeah, I think I'm leaning towards that one.
I was even thinking about doing something weird, like having three pickups (The P in the middle and one J on either side of it) and making lots of switches for different pickup options, just to add to the over-the-top geeky ambiance of it. :) But I'm not sure I could really fit a second J type in there.

I decided to go into the music store on my way home from school a few weeks ago, just out of boredom. Saw it, played it, and fell in love with it. And it's only $350, so I'm all over that.

41. Best be careful when falling in love with an instrument that's still at the store.
They're not always true to you.

I fell in love with a guitar once. It was shiney. And green. And it just felt right in my hands and it sounded good.

But then she ran away with someone else, and I've never seen her again.

Those Crates are fine. Good clean sound. Pick up an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer or a Marshall Bluesbreaker and you'll be set.
