Gotta be Data. No other screen android has ever been explored so thoroughly and so rewardingly.

Trouble is, that was mostly done on the TV show, with little of substance ever shown in the movies.

52. Although, he did move mechanical items against the crew!
HAL broke all three of Asimov's rules:

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

55. R2 and R5 were different production models by the same company.
Industrial Automation produced several different R-series astromech droids.

The R2 series was the second (and most successful) production model and R5 series was the fifth.

66. Two possibilities: not mutually exclusive
Possibility 1:
Luke is a hick from a backwater planet and can't tell astromech droids apart, but knows that the R2 is a popular model.
Sub-possibility 1:
Astromech droids on Tatooine are generically referred to as R2 units the same way that in some parts of the US, soft drinks are generically referred to as 'Coke.'
Possibility 2:
George Lucas wrote a line, then decided later that he didn't mind if the type of droid was changed, even if it meant a continuity error.

I looked on Wookiepedia and they said this:
Luke refers to R5-D4 as an "R2 Unit". Whether or not this was an intentional generalization on the part of the character, or actor, or scriptwriter, is unclear. It seems obvious, however, that R5-D4 is actually an 'R5 unit'.

49. Iron Giant, too, but also Tima from the anime 'Metropolis' and Box from 'Logan's Run'
Tima:

Box:

Tima and Iron Giant for being heartbreaking (seriously, try watching either and not blubbering like a little baby, good luck with that. funny, they both feature little boys befriending innocent robots that don't realize they were designed to be killers...heh...but Tima is a heck of a lot cuter)
Box for being completely ridiculous. How you can see him and not burst out laughing is beyond me.
