4. what kills me is they go so long between new "seasons"
of Battlestar Galactica, and they hardly ever run the show, or promote the show.

Meanwhile, you can see Stargate:XXX 20 times a week.

11. If it's any consolation, SciFi used BSG to kill SG1.

13. how is that?
the show was only on twice a week, once at 10pm, and then repeated at 1am...and, it went so long between half-seasons that it was hard to maintain continuity.

17. Here's how (at least my take on it)
SciFi had a successful (ratings-wise) block on Friday nights. SG1, Atlantis, BSG. They knew that because of the block, Stargate franchise viewers were staying up the extra hour to watch BSG, and BSG fans were tuning in early to catch SG1 and/or Atlantis.

SciFi wanted to kill SG1 because after 10 seasons, it was becoming an expensive show and they wanted to put those resources into their 'original' shows like Eureka. The problem was that all three shows in their Friday-night block had similar ratings, so they couldn't just say that it was a ratings decision to cancel SG1. The decision was made, ostensibly to have 'new episodes of the three most popular shows running continuously,' to break up the Friday-night block by delaying the new season of BSG until the mid-season hiatus for SG1 and Atlantis. They also stopped advertising for the new season SG1, except during reruns, and even then, only once per hour.

When season 10 of SG1 and Season 3 of Atlantis started, both shows had lower ratings and they finally had their excuse to kill SG1. The BSG fans who had been watching SG1 because it was on before their show didn't have the same incentive and, when you combine the total lack of advertising for the new season, SG1's ratings fell a small amount and SciFi pulled the plug 6 episodes into the new season.

16. I don't get why they started the Planet of The Apes marathon at 10 pm - 4 am
All day long it was BS. How the movies were made, etc. Then they started showing the actual movies too late. Guess it's time to get a DVR.

18. Ratings
What's going to attract more viewers? The latest SciFi POS or Planet of the Apes? If they schedule Planet of the Apes when they know no-one will watch, then they can say, "Look! Mansquito 4 got the same ratings as Planet of the Apes!"
