Remote car starters
I'm thinking about buying a remote car starter. A local car stereo store has them on sale right now and I'm thinking that one of those things would be really nice this winter.

I'm wondering how they work, what the set-up is like in your car, and how well you like your's.

1. My dear Droopy!
I've never had one, but it does sound like a good idea, what with your severe winters and all...

I hope someone comes along with some answers for you!

2. Thanks for the kick
:hi:

Yeah, no more scraping windows and freezing your ass off getting to your car and driving down the road for 10 minutes until the heater starts to work.

3. I LOVE mine
My mom insisted on paying for one for my car when MG Jr. was born, and it is a godsend (especially toting a tot around--she was right about that). About five or 10 minutes before we have to leave, I just go to the window and point the starter at the receiver, which is positioned on the dashboard, up against the windshield. Blink blink go the hazards, beep beep goes the starter, and vroom. We enter warm car. And if I'm smart enough to remember to have the heater turned to the defroster setting and turned up a notch, it also melts the ice off the windshield.

I can't say enough good things about it. Detractors say it messes with your car's electrical system, but I haven't had a problem yet, and it's been five years. At this rate it's going to outlast the car itself.

4. Thank you
Do you think $139 installed is a good deal?

5. Yep, that sounds about right
I think that's what my mom paid for mine. As long as it's installed by a reputable dealer/installation place, no worries. It's those fly-by-night guys you should avoid.
