I think Mr. MG is spending his future raise ahead of time. Dude's scaring me, especially because word around his workplace is everybody's getting a 2% cost-of-living increase--no greater than that. He just bought a new computer--granted, his old one was dying, so okay--an X-Box 360 for the kid (and, ahem, him), finally got his cracked windshield replaced, and now is muttering about buying a new TiVo because he doesn't like the DVR that came with the new cable package...and now wants a new, bigger TV, although we just got this admittedly modest flatscreen about a year and a half ago.
Wazzup with this guy? Does he have a monetary stash he's not telling me about? Some inside scoop on where to get some extra green? Some sugar mama on the side? And, more important, if he's going to start spending money like water, WHY DON'T I HAVE TILE IN MY BATHROOM YET? It's been THREE YEARS that we gutted the bathroom but we haven't had the money to finish it.
Even more important than that, will his newfound confidence in our finances be reflected by stuff under the tree with my name on it, come Christmas?

I want to tear out the carpet in our master bath (do not even ask) but we do not have the money to replace it with tile (or linoleum). And I do not want to be walking around on the subfloor while I wait to afford the tile.

2. WHY DO PPL PUT CARPET IN BATHROOMS/NEAR SINKS? |
|
It pisses me the hell off that my sink area of the bathroom has carpet. Ugh

4. And around the terlet... |
|
My house was built in the late 1970s. I believe the carpet is original...and really really a stupid idea in the bathroom.

6. My mom used to put cut-to-fit rugs IN |
|
She did that in the house we lived in when I was a preteen. Perfectly acceptable tile floors, and she went out and bought this cut-to-fit fuzzy rug to cover the whole bathroom floor. It wasn't quite shag...more like fun fur. I swear. Well, it was the '70s...

3. Yeah, somehow there's always cash for "toys" |
|
Our living quarters, not so much. Call me crazy, but I think three years with plastic shower curtains all around the tub area is long enough. I did toy with the idea of yanking up the stained, spotted, cracked linoleum squares off the floor, but I didn't want to walk around on the subfloor forever either.

That's so funny- our bathroom is a horror show, the linoleum tiles are coming up to expose the subfloor. Also, the subfloor needs to be replaced. I cover it all up with bath rugs.
Then last summer the ceramic tiles around the tub started buckling, and water kept leaking into the kitchen below. We decided he really HAD to totally redo the bathroom-. We went to a tile store and found some beautiful tiles, were looking at bathtubs that would fit the small space, etc, etc. I was so psyched!
But he was unemployed then, and then got a job. So now we have more $$, but no time. He's been working crazy hours, and has a million MUST-DO things on the w/e. Plus he needs his down time.
Our house needs so much work, but either we have time and no money or money but no time. And we never have been able to afford to hire someone else to do it! I must keep visualizing abundance.
Meanwhile, like MG, we have a 2nd shower curtain hanging over the leaky tiles.
I will say he doesn't spend much money on toys, however.

Yeppers, it's the same in our house. We bought the place, used the profits from selling our old place to take care of the big ticket items (furnace, electric main, stove, refrigerators, insulation, bigger woodstove), bought a few other necessary items (tools etc.) and promptly ran out of money. Since then we've renovated in fits and starts, but now Mr. MG is working at a job that requires a lot of "off hour" attention, including weekends, plus he's racking up some freelance hours, PLUS of course he wants to relax and play with MG Jr.
So things are going very....
very.....
slooooooowwwwwllyyyyyyy.
