Since I was bitching about my Thanksgiving, I should prob'ly report
on how it turned out. My dad got here Wednesday afternoon. We had dinner that night at a nice Greek restaurant, then went to the Community Thanksgiving Service, which was at the only African American church in town.

The service was good--a fine sermon by a newly-ordained ELCA pastor, really meaningful pastoral prayer by a UMC pastor, and a great welcome by the home congregation. As president of the ministerial association, I did kind of "mc-ish" work--making sure people knew when to go to the lectern, etc. The pastor of the host church doesn't get to ministerial association meetings much, because he has to hold down another job, as a counselor at a corrections half-way house. His congregation was so grateful to be asked to host that they were really welcoming. It was a good evening.

Then we came home, lit a fire, enjoyed warm cider, and watched with sadness as events unfolded in Mumbai.

Yesterday we slept in. Then took the beagle for a walk on the Riverwalk. We did go to dinner at the truck stop, but it was better than I expected. They did have a special Thanksgiving menu. I was pondering what to order, and mentioned to the waitress that I was stuck because I'm vegetarian. She said "I'll make up a veggie plate. It'll be good. Not vegan, but veggie...and Thanksgiving-y, too."
And it was. Mashed potatoes, steamed green beans and zucchini, wild rice, cranberry sauce, banana nut bread, and dressing. She said the dressing was not cooked in the turkey, and not made with broth. She added "I can't guarantee it has no chicken or turkey flavoring, but it's not much." So, I ate it. I was amazed that she was so "in touch". I asked her about it, and she said her daughter is vegan, so she understands these things. My dad had a traditional Thanksgiving meal, and we both had apple pie for dessert.

Then we went to see "Australia" last night. I liked it. I gave the critters their traditional Thanksgiving meals, too. Canned Pro-plan for Shamu and Sophia, the canned version of Leon's prescription food, and canned vegetarian dog food for the beagle. They usually get dry, so this was a treat for them all. Then we watched some more coverage of the tragedy in Mumbai.

My dad left after we had lunch at Cracker Barrel. So, it turned out to be a nice holiday, though I wish my dad had stayed longer.

Hope you all had a great day!

1. So glad you and your dad had a nice time together.
We went to MrSG's niece's house for dinner. Smallish crowd, fabulous dinner, nice time.

Today, I'm heading to Oregon to see my family. We're having a T-day dinner tomorrow and watching the Civil War game (Oregon v. Oregon State).

3. My dear mycritters2!
I'm so glad it turned out that well for you both!

We had a lovely Thanksgiving up at our daughter's home with her husband and their kids, and his family too...

I stuffed myself!

The kids were fun to watch and we all had great conversations!

How great it is when things turn out better than we'd hoped!

I had worried about you after I saw your post before Thanksgiving. It sounded like you really were not looking forward to it, and that made me feel sad for you. I'm glad to hear it went better than you expected.

We took my Mom to Galesburg to my brother's house for Thanksgiving. Our trip took WAY longer than we expected it to because we had to stop several times due to gastro-intestinal distress. My Mom and I both had the "dire-rears" and neither of us wanted to cancel out on the other. As a result it was about 3 and a half hours from CU Galesburg because we could not pass up a rest stop or gas station.

Trust me on this, we saw the high points along the way...

:eyes:

Kev and I were staying at a motel last night while Material Girl was staying at my brother's. About half an hour after we got to the motel we got a call telling us that Material Girl had developed that same issue. I asked Kev if he thought the trip could get any worse and he just laughed at me.

We came home early this morning rather than heading on down to the Sand family gathering--all the while hoping that we had not infected my brother's household with this stuff. I am toying with the idea of hanging a Quarantine sign on our front door. I made a vat of chicken soup tonight and we are all just kinda being spuds right here at home.

I do NOT suggest dropping by for a visit.

6. Sorry to hear your T-day was so , umm, crappy.

My assistant had that version of the flu or whatever. Happily, mine was the respiratory kind, which I much prefer to the gastro-intestinal variety. But you did see all the lovely landmarks between CU and Galesburg. So there's that :) .

Hope you're all feeling better now. Here's hoping you, Kevsand and kidsand have a good rest-of-Thanksgiving-weekend. And, as always, my best to everyone in C-U! :hi:
