Good News for Stanley Kubrick Fans |
|
Edited on Fri Nov-28-08 06:29 PM by Mike 03
A couple of years ago there was discussion here about the release of the book "The Stanley Kubrick Archives" published by Taschen at a cost of around $200 bucks. It was an amazing book but out of the reach of most fans. And it quickly went out of print and the first edition in unsealed/opened, used form with the CD and 70mm film clip is now hard to get for under four of five hundred dollars. The sealed version is probably more than that.
Taschen has just released a reprint, that is about two-thirds to a half the size and only $45 dollars if you get it at Amazon. It retails for $70, but even at that price it is a good buy.
Some people were worried it was not the entire reprint of the entire original, but I received it Wednesday night and compared it page by page to the original archives, and it is exactly the same page length, and the quality is fantastic.
I'm ordering a second copy of the reprint because it is so much lighter, more readible, and easier to carry around.
I know times are tough and discretionary money is short, but I just wanted to share the release of this edition.
Now I would love them to do the same with the Ingmar Bergman archives, which I can't spend two hundred bucks on....

3. Just a few good books out there about SK. |
|
Kubrick: Inside A Film Artist's Maze by Thomas Allen Nelson and Kubrick by Michel Ciment are the only worthwhile ones that I've read. I'll have to check this out.

5. I couldn't agree more. Those are my two favorites. |
|
The other well known Kubrick books are quite lame, IMO.

6. Ciment's book is appreciated, but I wish there was more attention |

paid to "Inside a Film Artist's Maze." That is quite an extraordinary analysis.
