Okay Midlo here's a strange twist of fate
Edited on Fri Nov-28-08 07:13 PM by underpants
I gots the gout

I was told by my podiatrist (I have a podiatrist) that beer and wine were not okay but the corn liquor was okay

NOW my rheumatologist (I have a rheumatologist) says that beer and liquor are NOT okay but wine is...in moderation ;-)

1. I think that's true. Something about the purine levels in beer.
I remember when I was in grad school the trend was to get patients to eliminate all alcohol because of the link that was thought to be between uric acid and alcohol consumption.

How are you feeling?

2. Puuurty good
Got back to running this week. Eye protection in the cold is a very good thing.

Machine like (the swimming and weight training is reaping huge results).

If the wheels hold up......we are gold.

3. Be careful, or you'll get a purinary tract infection

4. My neurologist (I have a neurologist) says I had polio. A long time ago.
A few years ago I noticed my left calf muscle was atrophying.
Eventually I was referred to a neurologist (I had a neurologist).

His diagnosis was some kind of very old trauma.
Had I ever broken my back or damaged my spinal chord?
No.
Broken that leg?
No.
Been in an automobile crash?
No.

"Let's see, you were born in 1941? In Birmingham?"
"Yep."
"Did you ever have polio?"
"No. But I remember the polio scares. Public swimming pools closed when there was a polio outbreak. That kind of thing."
"Well, you may have had a mild case. Symptoms may have been flu-like. Or just like a really bad cold."
"I guess that could be. It was a long time ago."
"Well, that's my best guess. The nerves from your spinal chord to that muscle are just gone. Dead."
"OK, can I do some physical therapy? Something like that?
"No. The nerve is dead. The muscle is getting no message from your central nervous system. Nothing you can do about that except a very complicated operation that may have about a 50-50 chance of success."
"Guess I'll pass."
"Yeah, I would too."

6. Oh, I know. I've known folks with it. It's incredibly painful.
