Tell me which awesome movie to rent.
I can never think of one when I get to the video store.

PS--I have a great place I go that has EVERYTHING, so post even your most obscure favorites (no porno, please). :)

1. If you are in the mood for a documentary
Try The Corporation and/or War on Democracy. War on Democracy can be found on www.freedocumentaries.org for free. There are a lot of great documentaries on that site including some Michael Moore stuff.

2. Recently I've watched these movies and loved them
I was trying to catch up on classics, but I sneaked some others in there too!

Goodfellas
Pulp Ficion
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Chaos Theory
Life of Brian
Step Brothers
Walk the Line

One I watched recently which I would recommend to no one because it was so terrible was "A Complete History of my Sexual Failures." Another one in the same category is "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People."

6. I just watched a great little documentary
"The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill". About a flock of parrots that live in San Francisco and the aging hippie who cares for them. "Heartwarming" may be a cliché, but it fits perfectly. If you're in the mood for something of a downer "Born into Brothels" is a documentary about kids growing up in the red light district of Calcutta. No sex, but lots of heart-breaking drama. Both films will leave you crying, though for different reasons.

Both are available as "view it now" downloads from Netflix.

12. help take care of the parrots.
i used to have a cherry headed conure, and have seen these parrots. i understand that the flock has been invaded by some parasites (i think) that attack the brains. when they get sick, they end up on the ground, and are often taken to mickaboo. since it is a terminal condition, there is not much they can do but make them comfortable. that takes money, too, tho.

It's INCREDIBLE, visually, and the story within is very sweet and tragic.

10. have you seen "Sunshine"?
I think it's out on dvd in the US, though I don't know if it was released in theatres there. It's a great sort of sci-fi horror film by Danny Boyle, who did "train spotting" and "28 days latter". Something like 2001-meets-a slasher film.

29. Good acting, great special effects
Laughable plot. Every time it violated the laws of physics or medical science (i.e. every ten minutes) I had to wince.

For a S.F. movie that's so bad it's a hoot, try "The Core".

EDIT: I would argue that Richard Mulligan's portrayal of General Custer is one of my all-time favorite movie villains. He's cartoonish, but beneath it there is a legitimate creepiness to his complete lack of regard for life.
