my cousin just told me she is now a Pescetarian.
At first I thought it was a religion but she told me it is a vegetarian who eats fish. This is what Wiki had to say-

Pescetarianism is a dietary choice in which a person, known as a pescetarian, eats any combination of vegetables, fruit, nuts, beans and fish or invertebrate seafood, but will not eat mammals or birds. Some animal products like eggs and dairy may or may not be part of a pescetarian diet plan.

Terms like "pesco-vegetarianism" are sometimes used to describe pescetarianism, to emphasize that pescetarians eat vegetables, fruit, and grains as well as fish. However, this term is controversial and less used, in part because it implies that pescetarianism is a type of vegetarianism, and some vegetarian groups do not want to be aligned with fish eaters. The Vegetarian Society, which initiated popular use of the term vegetarian as early as 1847, does not consider pescetarianism a valid vegetarian diet.<1> The definitions of "vegetarian" in authoritative, mainstream dictionaries vary.<2>

In July 2008 The Associated Press reported that Merriam-Webster Inc. has added more than 100 new entries to its new edition of the Collegiate Dictionary; one of those words was pescetarian.<3> The definition of the word according to that dictionary is: "vegetarian whose diet includes fish."

What do you think about this I have never heard of it.

1. It's a better choice than eating land animals. For many, it's a step toward

veg*nism, a transitional phase. I think it's pretty good, because it doesn't support the factory chicken and hog farms which caused me to become veg*n. So, while not perfect (and who among us is?), it's a step in the right direction.

And, on edit, I like that it's honest...unlike "vegetarians" who eat fish. :eyes:

4. Well, I think the premise is that fish don't feel pain like cattle and poultry
and aren't really kept in inhumane conditions for protracted periods of time. If that's what your objection to meat is about, then I suppose it's a valid way to go.

5. Describes my beautiful daughter perfectly
Now I know what she is. I thought , never mind, I'm glad she is eating fish, she used to hate it, but she works out so I guess she wasn't getting enough proteins.

6. to me ( an omnivore that raises beef cattle) it is odd.
If one's objection to eating meat is that there is some sort of moral issue with the use of animals then it seems to me fish would be in the same category. If animal life is on equal footing with human life (not my belief) then fish should be there too.

But then these eating pathologies/fads/personal choices don't really use much logic anyway.

7. It's no form of "vegetarian" if the diet includes fish.
That's why pescetarian is a better description.

9. Personally I'm a Sapientarian...
Yes, I made up the term. I only eat species that have demonstrated some evidence for Sapience. This would include Dolphins, Great Apes, Whales, Humans, Crows, etc.

11. A Pescitarian is someone who prays to Joe Pesci
So to get around a lot of this, I decided to worship the sun. But, as I said, I don't pray to the sun. You know who I pray to? Joe Pesci. Two reasons: First of all, I think he's a good actor, okay? To me, that counts. Second, he looks like a guy who can get things done. Joe Pesci doesn't fuck around. In fact, Joe Pesci came through on a couple of things that God was having trouble with.

For years I asked God to do something about my noisy neighbor with the barking dog, Joe Pesci straightened that cocksucker out with one visit. It's amazing what you can accomplish with a simple baseball bat.

So I've been praying to Joe for about a year now. And I noticed something. I noticed that all the prayers I used to offer to God, and all the prayers I now offer to Joe Pesci, are being answered at about the same 50% rate. Half the time I get what I want, half the time I don't. Same as God, 50-50. Same as the four-leaf clover and the horseshoe, the wishing well and the rabbit's foot, same as the Mojo Man, same as the Voodoo Lady who tells you your fortune by squeezing the goat's testicles, it's all the same: 50-50. So just pick your superstition, sit back, make a wish, and enjoy yourself.
