Some guys just broke into my shed. |
|
I'd left the light on in the shed when I came into the house, and when I looked out the back window, I noticed a couple of guys in there. So I calls the Five-O, and said I had burglars. The nice 911 lady asked if they were in the house, to which I replied "no, they're out in the shed". She then informs me that due to it being a busy holiday weekend and that the burglars weren't in my house, a patrolman wouldn't be able to get there for a half hour. I thanked her and hung up, waited about 30 seconds, and called 911 back. When the dispatcher answered, I told her to cancel the patrolman, as I had just shot the two burglars in my shed.
Well, about three minutes later four patrol cars come screeching up to the house, followed by an ambulance, a fire truck, and a helicopter shining a searchlight down on my house. Those two burglars didn't even make it to the back fence before they were face down with cuffs behind their backs.
After all the ruckus died down, the Sargent in charge comes up and gets in my face and says "I thought you said that you had shot the two perps"! So I says back to him "I thought you guys couldn't get here for a half an hour". Then I told him to get off my lawn.

9. Sheriff told my Dad to be sure and drag them in the house. |
|
We lived on a farm and my Dad was telling the Sheriff that he believed in and was prepared for home defense.
Sheriff looked him in the eye and said, "If it ever comes to that, Mr Davis, please save us all a lot of trouble and drag the bodies into the house before you call us."

10. Yeah, and always fire a "warning" shot into the ceiling. |
|
Just to cover all the bases.

12. Nope. If you are gonna pull a gun you better mean it. Ain't no warning to it. |
|
If you don't plan to use it don't even get it out of the closet.
I SUPPOSE that "warning shot" could happen AFTER you dragged the bodies in, however. Seems a waste somehow.

We lived where police response time was measured in hours rather than minutes, plus you gotta remember this was in the 60's in Rural America. Different world, different attitudes. I would NOT have wanted to mess with most of the farms out here in those days.
Still not sure if it wouldn't bea Darwin sort of thing to try it even today, if you want the truth.
