They are planning a remake of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=50902

Last month, CHUD reported that 20th Century Fox had a script in the works titled Genesis: Apes, which is essentially a remake of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. The site said that the project is the story of Caesar, the first ape with speech who started the events that led to a world where monkeys were on top.

Now, they're reporting that Fox's Tom Rothman talks about the possible prequel in between showings of the "Planet of the Apes" movies on Fox Movie Channel this weekend.

"We are very close at Fox on a new Apes script- this one a kind of prequel story before the first story, with a return to the social thematics that mark the first one, but with an entirely contemporary setting - Earth 2009," Rotham reportedly says.

I fucking hope not. No matter how campy the original was they will just fuck it up like they did with that Tim Burton horseshit remake.

13. I watched that one numerous times.

Mostly because I was just trying to find a single redeeming thing about it. Other than maybe the makeup and prosthetics, I really couldn't. It had neither the brilliance nor originality nor interest of the original, and the sad attempt at the 'twist' at the end, followed by a second even sadder 'twist' in the last 60 seconds was just bad. The first twist, okay. At least it made sense. It wasn't mind-blowing the way the original was, but it made sense. The second? No. Given the information from the rest of the movie, it just didn't make sense. If the only way to explain a 'twist' is the make another movie to explain it, which is what they would have done had the first one not been such a flop, then it's not a twist. It's a cliffhanger. And it wasn't even a very good one.

Hell, the set design didn't even impress me. They were just trying too hard to make things look fantastical and different. Burton's visual style works best when he takes something concrete and just makes it a little bit more in one direction or another. For instance, his two Batman movies. The sets were very impressive in the first one if only because they DIDN'T stand out too much. They blended in. Added to the feel of the movie. Made it look like a real city that had become dingy and hopeless. The second one was all Tim Burton style, cheesy gothic, ect. And it completely detracted from the feel of the movie and jarred out out of any semblance of realism.

16. Helena Bonham Carter thought the ending made perfect sense.
Burton said that the ending wasn't supposed to make sense.

17. I'm pretty sure she's in a constant state of stoner-dom, whether she actually partakes in any
illicit substances or not. :P

18. This could actually be a good test to see if anyone has some screws loose.
Have them sit through the whole movie and then ask them if the ending made sense.

12. Yep. Hence why the original went full cycle.
However the logical place to start would be to send someone from the time before humans started bringing apes into normal society into the future to see them later, and then have that start the chain reaction.

The ape revolution probably still would have happened without Caesar, though. It just would have taken longer.
