trivia: when this song was performed on Saturday Night Live, Chevy Chase played the cowbell.

(edited to add: Sheryl Crow is a pale imitation of this lady)

:loveya:

got to see her at San Francisco's "Strictly Bluegrass" right before Emmylou Harris came onstage.

main reason i got to know Alison Krauss (back in Union Station days) was because she did a wonderful cover of a Keith Whitley song, "When You Say Nothing At All".

I'm old enough that Whitley's version is always what I remember but her cover was incredible.

12. Iris DeMent is a very specific taste
 as you must know.

i prefer someone who has sung with her many times, Nanci Griffith and that leads me to a Nanci Griffith song sung by Kathy Mattea.

16. i'll keep my yap shut about Ms. DeMent
and this song from Prine and Griffith (a Prine song actually) is a keeper. I love it.

Love just about every song on that album and one of my favorites has Iris in it.

"This Old Town" sung by Nanci Griffith and Iris DeMent.

I only started listening to Carly Simon because a friend told me Mary Chapin Carpenter reminded her of Simon. So I went and listened to those songs that I ignored as a kid and though wow, she really brings it.

Word of mouth is a great way to find music. :pals:

i like how she adapted the poem by Robert Burns into quite a moving song.
