Shop-Rite Grocery store refuses to make birthday cake for kid who's name is Adolph Hiltler
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/us_world/2008/12/16/2008-12-16_happy_birthday_adolf_hitler_boy_with_naz.html

This Hitler youth is blond-haired, blue-eyed and just turned three.

Adolf Hitler Campbell is the middle child of three kids given Nazi-themed names by their parents, including a dad who denies the Holocaust occurred and decorates his home with swastikas.

"They're just names, you know," father Heath Campbell told the Easton Express-Times. "Yeah, they (the Nazis) were bad people back then. But my kids are little. They're not going to grow up like that."

Adolf has two sisters, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie. The latter, just eight months old, was named for Nazi leader Heinrich Himmler.

The bizarre names came to public attention after a local ShopRite declined to provide the Holland Township, N.J., family with a cake inscribed "Happy Birthday Adolf Hitler."

"Other kids get their cake," Campbell complained. "I get a hard time. It's not fair to my children. How can a name be offensive?"

The kids are growing up in a home festooned with a swastika in every room. The father wears boots that once belonged to a Nazi soldier, and claims a relative was a member of Hitler's feared Schutzstaffel.

-------------------------------------------------------

Yeah asshole, it's also not fair to saddle your kid with one of the most offensive names imaginable. What better way to guarentee the kid will get beat up in school each day. I hope this family plans on homeschooling this kid.

1. Homeschooling is not the answer
I think in a public school the kid has a chance to hear opposing viewpoints instead of only the obviously hateful ones held by his parents.

15. I meant homeschooling as a means to protect those kids from getting beat-up at school
because clearly these kids go in as obvious white supremists. I mean geez, if the kids had normal names at least it wouldn't be so fricking obvious.

And I know that several DUers where homeschooled or currently homeschooling their kids. My bust was not on the concept of homeschooling but the fact that these parents are giving their children a very obvious social disadvantage in the world.

3. You're just mean

True story - when I was house shopping, my realtor took me to a house that wasn't really in an area I was interested in but she wanted to go there because a co-worker was bugging her to show the house. She even said if I didn't want to go it's ok but she wanted to see what the place looked like because this other realtor tended to over-exaggerated and over-price stuff. I said it was cool because it's fun looking at houses (and she had 10 other houses on the list that were definately ones to consider including the one I ended up buying).

So this house, which was definately overpriced, was in a bad neighborhood (about $40k overpriced). And we get inside it's just the junkiest looking house inside too. PLUS the owner didn't leave the house - which was definately not a selling point. The guy had a swatizka on his arm and I shit you not - a TATTOO of a Hitler mustache. He was very nice to me but no way I would buy a house from someone like that.

Well maybe it might be if he was named something like "Adolph Hitler."

8. These parents have got to win the "Worst Person(s) in the World"
naming their kids after Hitler, Aryan Nation and Himmler (though too stupid to actually spell it right that time).

The poor kids must have been so disappointed. And what about their friends that are coming to the birthday party? What will they tell Piper, Willow, Bristol and Trig when there is no cake?

12. gawd, that's disturbing!

How could they not grow up confused or with really warped sensibilities, in that kind of household? Why are people so out of touch with reality? Maybe they need a trip to the Holocaust Museum.... :(

14. As far as I'm concerned..
that's child abuse.

At least a few countries make it illegal to name your child names like these, and while I'm usually against such censorship, in cases like these, I fully support it. Those poor, poor children.

16. worst case - just make it their middle name
I mean personally I don't think Adolph should be used at all but if you gave the kid a name like Joseph Adolph Campbell, most of the times the teachers just go by the first name. The kid could be Joseph A. Campbell and no one would be the wiser.

22. I wonder how long it took those con artists, er, I mean, "parents" to cook up this scheme
for fame, money, and free publicity for their sick collection of Nazi memorabilia? Oh, that's right...it's all about the children. :eyes:

I see through these phonies easier than you can see through White Lake.

23. I'd arrest those terrorist parents for giving that poor kid that awful name
Edited on Wed Dec-17-08 12:59 PM by StopThePendulum
The parents are neo-Nazis and should be forced to change their kids' names to something more socially acceptable in today's United States. Either that, or they should have their children taken away from them, made wards of the state, and the State of New Jersey should change their names for them.

The boy didn't choose his name any more than he chose his hair or eye color. I fault the parents 100% sticking him with this unmentionable name.

24. So seriously
The father whines about "Think of the children - this is so mean to the children" Guess what - the only thing mean is that you gave kid no choice but to be stuck with a hateful name and then feign outrage when people aren't shocked and offended at your white racist attitude.

And I've had Shop-Rite cakess - they aren't that great.

Really though, those children will grow up to be just like their parents most likely. And that is sad. Those poor children almost have no choice but to be racist
