1. In Russia, we don't see Valkyrie. Valkyrie sees us. |

2. 63% positive on RottenTomatoes |
|
Ebert gave it 3/4 stars FWIW. I will probably wait for video as it's the type of film (i.e. not big f/x) that I feel I need to see on the big screen.

3. I'm not running out to see it... from what I recall it's gotten pretty |

unfavorable reviews. Besides, I saw a documentary/documdrama on that event, and it was awesome. I wish I could remember who made it or where I saw it.
It wasn't part of Ken Burns "War" series, was it...? If not, it was shown around the same time the History channel was airing that, perhaps as a documentary complement to his work. I don't know. Either way, it was good and made me spend several days on the Google machine researching things...
I'm not a Tom Cruise fan for some reason (except for Rain Man - everyone was great in that movie. Oh, and he was pretty good in the - forgot the title - Samurai something? Gory, but I thought it was strong. If forced to choose, I'd go for Kurosawa, though. My favorite is Dursu (sp?) Usala. I LOVE that movie. Or Stray Dog. I love that one, too.).
I'm really interested in seeing Frost/Nixon... didn't that come out today, too?

4. The reviews are more good than bad. Seems to be two basic schools. |
|
Either the critics thought it was good, suspenseful, and an interesting story people should know more about, or they thought Tom Cruise was awful and ruined the film. The latter seem to be mostly the Cruise-haters. I saw a couple of the "Tom Cruise did a surprisingly good job in this film" reviews, which follow every Tom Cruise film. People seem to hate Cruise in theory, but when they actually watch him, they are "surprised" that he's actually a pretty good actor.

6. Seconded but for different reasons. |

Sod religious stuff, there should be one or two days a year when pretty much everything does shut down. And that should include cinemas. Our local cinema when I was young in the UK did close for Christmas. This still holds true, AFAIK the Odeon (probably largest cinema chain in UK) is definitely closed for Christmas. But they do open Boxing Day. (that's today!)
I remember a time when even the gas stations were closed and you had a hard time finding gas on Christmas Day. Gas stations on the main interstate-like roads would be open; local ones were more than likely closed.
Mark.
