I'm fighting with AT&T re billing and want to dump them. Anyone here
familiar with Hughes Net and will I be able to use Magic Jack with it. AT&T has become out of control, billing me for services I don't want or use. I clicked on something when browsing for "enhancement" to service and now being charged for "Voice Mail", etc. I'd love to cancel them today but can't be without phone or internet. Many thanks for any advice.

1. As long as you have a broadband connection you can use the Magic Jack
I have the Magic Jack and I am pleased with it.

3. Magic Jack won't let you make calls outside US and Canada

If that's not an important limitation, and you're OK leaving your computer running whenever you'd like to be reachable by phone, it could be cool.

On my Mac, the Magic Jack software does seem to cause it to lock up now and again... but then again, so does a lot of stuff.

Also, MJ is limited to one phone near your computer, unless you buy splitters and a lot of cord to go to your kitchen, bedroom, or wherever you're used to having a phone.

5. I use the Magic Jack with a cordless phone that has multiple handsets
No problem at all.

There are ways (there is a forum with the information) to actually use the house wiring with Magic Jack. I have not done that though.

10. I'll look for it, but not having realized the costs, I just splurged for the data plan...
Unlimited downloading and 250 text messages. Saves the (anywhere from $20 to $60) I'd otherwise spend.

I can change it, so I will look up MagicJack - thx!

4. I couldn't get Vonage to work with my satellite internet connection.
I have wildblue internet, there was too much of a lapse time with a satellite internet connection. Just as you can't play most games online or use satellite for "day trading" you will have a tough time using it for a phone connection.

Before you spend any money go to a forum for hughesnet customers and see if ANYONE has any luck using the magic jack.

I decided to just use my cell phone for telephone use & dump my landline.

7. Your internet isn't two-way?
Is your satilite internet a two way or just one way? The two way version will allow you to dump the land line.

I didn't have any luck with vonage. Any way you can get cable internet? I wish I could but we don't have a cable company here.
