I figured out why my cat doesn't like being petted... |
|
I have probably the fluffiest, softest cat in the entire world. I got her from the local shelter a year and a half ago, and she never has really liked more than a few seconds of being petted. I finally figured out that this is because she builds up static charges very easily, and I suspect being constantly shocked while petted doesn't feel so good. Although, it is kind of cool to see all the mini-sparks when I am petting the cat in my bed in the dark.. Okay, begin stupid sexual innuendos now. :P

1. If you humidify the room there probably won't be as much static spark |
|
And she'll get used to being petted.

I've been having that problem with one of my cats..but she just looks at me funny and lets me continue..go figure..One night there was so much static that I ran my hand in the air an inch over her fur and made it stand up...and she STILL didn't leave.....:)

3. Sound like the cat is not well grounded. |

You should always use a three-pronged outlet for cats.

5. Could she have matts near her skin? |
|
One of my kitties has extremely long, fine hair. I am always worried that she will get a matt close to her skin, I know those can be anywhere from uncomfortable to a downright health menace for them. I try to avoid the matting issue by giving her a short haircut twice a year. She loves the way it feels, and it cuts down on the static in winter, too.
