I feel queezy. We're under contract to buy a house
This is it:

Nice house, but god, the next few days of getting inspections, quotes for homeowners insurance, loan rate guarantees and a bevy of other stressful tasks are giving me butterflies like I haven't experienced since I was a kid getting up the nerve to ask a girl out for the first time.

I think I'm going to puke.

2. Yup. Attic is finishable, roof is new, both wood and oil heat. Some quirks though
The house is 120 years old, so it's "settled" a bit. The kitchen floor is white tile on a dark grout, and not level at all. The tile makes the floor look like warped graph paper. Dizzying really. It'll be fun fixing that.

But it has a yard big enough for us to grow a lot of our own food. Taking control of our food chain!

Plus it's on the bus route.

Still, I feel vomitous.

I don't like debt. x(

10. I hear you.
I bought my first house a couple years ago. I NEVER carried debt until this purchase, and I was almost to the point of panic attacks just thinking about it.

Good luck to you. Still, beautiful house.

4. Thanks!
I hope so too.

Interesting to note: most of the houses on the street look just like ours. It was built by the mill (aka Mother Warren) to house workers. It was designed by John Calvin Stevens which technically means it has a pedigree, even though it's basically his version of a Sears Catalog house in a box. It's funky as hell though.

30. It is lovely.
The first house (and only house so far) that my husband and I purchased was a Sears Catalog house. :D

Good luck with everything! I remember going through that it was nerve-wracking. We are just now to the point where we would go through it all again.

7. buying a home is such a pain, but worth it
Edited on Mon Jan-19-09 09:32 PM by carlyhippy
your hand will be completely cramped up on the day you sign for the home after signing, initialing, dating every piece of paper the banker will hand you. I like your house...and yes, it is horribly stressful, seems like there is always some kind of drama that will happen before it's finally yours...the inspector or the finance co or something, but ahh, when you get the keys, it was all worth it!

11. Puke, then get on with it. EVERYBODY goes through that when they
buy a house. The process is always the same.

Nice Dutch Gambrel, by the way.

Love the layout inside too. Very livable.

Speaking of houses, did you move to New Hampshire yet?

19. No, thanks for asking, but that move is dead. We simply CANNOT sell the
house in Connecticut for enough to cover the move.

12. Dude - selling is MUCH more stressful.
OK, OK, OK - I think I can carry the mortgage and my rent here for three months. Oh, God let someone buy this place. Please, please, please.

It makes signing the next 30 years of your life away look like child's play. :D

Oh, for the record, my place DID sell. :whew:

14. I think the people selling the place were in that situation.
It had been on the market for seven months. Their Realtor was very excitable.

Glad your place sold!

25. That duck is gamey and old.
Plus, it'd be hard to get the duct tape sticky stuff off.

I'm thinking vast quantities of red meat. Or Ostrich. Or maybe Nepalese Yak!

26. Nice - I really like Dutch Colonials.
Yeah, it's insanely stressful, especially if you don't like debt. I've seen many psychological surveys that place just *moving* just under having a close family member die in terms of stress.

It's got to be a great time to buy though. Depressed market and unbelievably low interest rates.

27. Wow! That's a really nice lawn for Maine
in January. :+

Have you puked yet?

Wait until it's all done and you sign the papers -- That's when you have a serious case of buyer's remorse. But after that you'll move in, settle down in the new location and wonder why the process bothered you so much.

Wondered if anyone would pick up on that.

Our realtor has been warning us to prepare for buyers remorse. I don't know, I just want it over!
