If it wasn't a major financial burden, would you clone your favorite pet? |
|
I heard on the radio that a family paid over $150K to clone their pet dog, after he passed. Would any of you do that, if money wasn't an issue?

that would be depriving some other wonderful creature a home with me. I'll take the memories and eventually find another four-legged best friend.

There are too many critters hunting safe homes as it is. I wouldn't eat Koala either. ;)

Maybe I've watched too many sci-fi/horror movies, but I'd be afraid that the clone would snap and turn on me. :scared:

in a minute if I was sure it was safe. She was a rescue dog so maybe I get retroactive credit for that?

I have three cats at this time...
the gray cat one of my co-workers gave to me after rescuing the mother off the streets
the brown cat my wife stopped someone from taking to the pound with "my husband will love her" (this is the second brown cat we've gotten this way)
and the tuxedo cat I rescued from the front suspension of my car
If you can clone cats that have been dead for three years and I had the money, my orange cat Titty Boy would have been dug up and at Re-Pet LOOOOONG ago!

8. No, but every subsequent cat I adopt will be a tabby-siamese mix. |
|
There are tons of them in shelters and rescue groups, so cloning seems rather unnecessary. Besides, with cloning, there's no proof whatsoever that personality will be replicated, only physical attributes, so it seems like a wasted effort to me.

9. No. Some people have way to much faith in genetics. |
|
Just having the same dna, does not mean you have the same dog. Even if dna does influence personality, it's not the whole story. It would be just plain creepy to have a dog that looks just like that other wonderful dog you had, but acts like somebody else. That's the sort of thing that can tarnish your memories of the first dog, and ruin your relationship with the second one.

10. No. Each new pet is an adventure, with their own personalities and traits. |
|
And there are plenty of animals needing homes. The next time I have a petless home, I'll adopt a homeless pet.

12. No, it wouldn't be the same pet anyway |
|
And as others have said, there are too many pets needing homes for me to consider being so selfish.
