I don't think I will ever feel like a grown up, even when I'm 60.

Yes! Immortality!

1. Well, I AM sixty ...
... or will in a few days.

And nope, I am still not even close to my concept of being a grown-up.

8. Thanks ...
... it will be February 9 - unless, of course, I drop dead of old age between now and then!

:hi:

2. I saw a bumper sticker that read "if you haven't grown up by 40, you don't have to"
I don't wanna grow up.....

5. Oh good. Then I'm all set. :)
As a kid, "grown up" to me meant never having to do anything I didn't want to do. And while that's not quite how life turned out, I've sure given it my best try!

6. Heh. I wish!
I'm in my mid-40s and I still feel like an eight year old inside.

And he's angry with me for letting me get so old and fat and thin on top.

He also kind of wishes the 80s would return, only without Reagan.

Life. Sometimes it's like a bad joke with no punchline.

7. Being a parent gets me closer than I thought I'd ever be.
But no, I don't think I'll ever feel as grown up as what I imagine it meant when I was a kid.

9. Hell no!
Heck, not even by my standards of "as a child". I'm in my 30's now, and I'm pretty sure that when I was 18 or 21 I couldn't have imagined what it would be like to be 30. I'm certainly not the person I would have guessed that I would be as a child or even in college, but I definitely don't feel grown up. ... old sometimes, maybe, grown up, no.

10. Ha! Most of the time I feel like a kid pretending to be a grown up.
Maybe that's what growing up really is...the ability to hide your real self to conform to society.

12. not at all.....
I'm 60 also....and I'm not sure what age I feel...
but certainly not what I thought grown ups would feel like...

I remember my Mom at age 92 saying she didn't feel any older than
she did as a young adult...she was just pissed that the outer
container had changed so much.

13. Twenty years ago when I was 40 I decided to stop waiting to be an adult
I figured that if I still didn't feel grownup at that age then it was never going to happen, so I decided to just lie and say I was grown up.

16. no - I thought adulthood would bring stability and more happiness
I had a miserable childhood, messed up family, way too serious, but not one that prepared me to deal with the world well. Financially and socially, my life is still unstable, in different ways. Adulthood has been far lonelier than I expected.

My life is almost half over and I haven't started having fun yet. There were a few basic things I wanted to have in adulthood, and I have only achieved one of them partially.

17. I don't have any expectations.
And I move around a lot, exploring. That's how life has been an adventure for me. That sounds corny and sappy. Let's just say I've had some pretty cool experiences.

20. I always thought that grownups really had their shit together.
Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 11:31 AM by Lyric
That they had a plan, and they knew what was going on, and all that stuff. Ha. I honestly still feel as clueless and vaguely apprehensive about life as I did when I was young. I try not to let on about that, though. LyricKid thinks I have a plan, and that I have my shit together, and I'd really hate to disappoint him. :(

21. Years ago, I decided I was required to be an efficiently functioning
adult.
It was very annoying and the people I had to associate with were boring in the extreme. I was very unhappy with it, so I gave up on the entire concept.

I am now 61 and have never been happier.

So, yeah, I'd have to say I've realized it.
