Fast food is evil
Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 12:08 AM by Radical Activist
I'm usually good about avoiding fast food despite my bad bachelor eating habits. Last week was an exception and I ate food from a window six out of seven days. One day I did it twice.

So I'm walking around just now and notice that my sides are kinda pudgy. And I've got a gut again. What the hell?! After just one week! It didn't go away that fast! And it's too damn cold to ride my bike.

5. really?
I've never thought about it before but I have a hard time thinking of any fat radical activist friends.

And the fast food industry totally goes against any number of my core political beliefs so I get guilt with the fat.

11. Or runs throught the jungles carrying rifles?
Seriously though, I was just talking to someone today about the movie "Supersize Me" and how messed up McDonalds food was for the dude.
And it took him months to lose the weight he gained in 30 days.

But it's so easy and kind of yummy, I know the temptation! :9

If it was a bonus on a DVD, we might have missed it.

I seem to remember something about them changing their marketing, maybe not asking anymore if people want to supersize.

15. I know. I work at a mall. I haven't had the time to go to the grocery store. I've been eating
at the food court. I've gained at least 20 pounds in the last two months. I also at lots of stuff that was microwaveable (does that put the weight on.. I guess since it was all pasta then yes). Now I have to eat leaves and grass to loose the weight. Not fun but I did it to myself.

16. Chain restaurants aren't much better
Once I had a series of meetings that had me eating in a different chain restaurant several days running. By the end of the week, I realized that no matter what you ordered, no matter what the cuisine, it all tasted the same.

I ate vegetarian for about a year after I read Fast Food Nation but, since I don't cook, I can't keep it going in the town I live in now. The food at my house is vegetarian but sometimes that isn't where most of my food comes from. There are only two places at best where I can get a decent vegetarian meal in this town and they aren't cheap enough to eat there all the time.

30. i pretty much cook all my food
in my small town it's either that or eat fast food. thankfully i'm southern, and we're born with the ability to cook. ;)

then again my granny says that it's a waste to know how to cook southern food if you're a vegetarian.

i'm not really vegetarian though, since i do eat fish from time to time. i definitely don't eat it every meal, but i do eat it every few months or so. guess that makes me a pescetarian. vegetarian is easier to say though, and you don't have to explain what it is after you say it.

i quit eating meat over two years ago. can't say i miss it. my energy level is up and i feel better. i swear i don't get sick as often either.

31. That reminds me
of yet another reason why I miss Southern girls. Stop doing that. There aren't any around here. At least you don't type with an accent.

Calling yourself a vegetarian is fine. You don't want to use anything that sounds too close to peskytarian.

That's great that it's working for you. I've nearly cut red meat out of my diet even now, but once every month or two I get an irresistible craving for it that doesn't go away. Eventually I go out for a good steak or maybe a hamburger which I always deeply regret about 15 minutes later.

TMI. Sorry.

32. lol.. well you probably don't miss the south
i love the south but also dislike it at the same times. there are great things about it, but i just don't fit in well here.. especially with my political views and how often i talk about them.

hey it's fine that you eat meat. i'm not one of those that will jump on you for eating it. i understand that cutting it out isn't for everyone. i believe in a natural food chain, but my big problem with the meat industry is the treatment of animals.. not to mention all the crap that is in the meat. i was shocked how much better i felt after a week of cutting out meat.

i will advise people to get meat from their smaller local meat markets if possible, not just since the animals were probably treated better, but also since the meat is probably much more healthy than grocery store meat. with the economy like it is though, most people just can't afford to buy meat from local meat markets - especially in rural towns like mine where you have to drive about 45 minutes to find a meat market.

33. My favorite,
when I can get it, is buffalo. It took me a while to get used to the idea because I loooooove buffalo. I would still like a pet buffalo in a field of native prairie grass someday. But, the meat is leaner, and every Buffalo...um ranch?...I'm aware of has a free range, grass fed herd so you get local, organic meat. I have to drive nearly an hour to the closest place to get any that I know about.

The Midwest is no better than the south as far as eating meat goes. I do miss a lot of things about the south, but I know what you mean about not fitting in unless you're in one of those enclaves like Austin or Atlanta.
