Good morning Lounge
How was your weekend? Hope you had a relaxing and fun time.

Me? Well, my weekend turned out to be not what I expected. The date didn't happen. My mover guy didn't even have the courtesy to cancel on me. No word. Nada. Nothing. So I went out for a drink with my best friend and had a girls night out. It was a nice evening. Yesterday I was puttering around in my new condo. Washed clothes, ironed. And read two to three books.

I read
Johan Theorin: Echoes from the Dead
http://www.amazon.com/Echoes-Dead-Johan-Theorin/dp/0385342217/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1233562918&sr=8-1

Khaled Hosseini: The Kite Runner
http://www.amazon.com/Kite-Runner-Riverhead-Essential-Editions/dp/1594481776/ref=pd_bbs_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1233563281&sr=8-2

started
Khaled Hosseini: A THousand Splendid Suns
http://www.amazon.com/Thousand-Splendid-Suns-Khaled-Hosseini/dp/159448385X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1233563372&sr=8-1

All three books are fantastic reads

Picture of the Day (my baby Simon and his brothers Serengeti and Sylvester - thanks AirmensMom!!)

1. good morning!!
guten morgen, even!

(it's almost 9am here, and I'm drunk on Pernod)

Do you really want to know how my weekend was? Do you? I'm smiling.

It's all going to come back to punch me in the face and gut, but at least I'm happy now for the first time in a month. I got to see a certain lady when I was out with friends, and she said some very very sweet things to me, and I got to walk her home arm-in-arm (because she was wasted). She invited me in for a drink, but I said 'no', either because 1. I'm an idiot, 2. I didn't want her to do something that she would regret, or 3. I didn't want her boyfriend to wake up with me there, come down stairs and punch my teeth out.

So, there you go. I'm a fucking idiot, but I'm not as dumb as I thought I might be. It's not unrequited (!!), at least in spirit, if not in action. I feel like a massive weight has been lifted off of my chest. (She said she missed me!! *swoon*)

3. more like an anti-date
I can't really have a date with a woman who lives with her boyfriend, can I? At least he wasn't along for it, though lots of our friends were. However, something happens when she and I are together where most other people disappear, and I forget what's happened and what's been said, but some things that she said I won't forget - I've probably blocked out the bad things. The things about how I'm likely to end up being very very hurt, for instance. Everyone has told me that this girl is nothing but trouble, and they're right, so I try to think of excuses for why I feel the way that I do about her, and I reason with myself that if I ever actually got her that it would be completely stupid, because she'd just fall for other men, like she has for me while she has a boyfriend.... and then I'm with her, and we're the only people on earth, and I can't believe that she's ever treated anyone the way she treats me, or looked at anyone the way she looks at me. AND she sent me a text the next morning, which she didn't have to do, of course. I'm old (7 years older, in this case). I don't know how to woo via text. Still, I am smitten like I've never been smitten before. This is going to end very very badly, isn't it?

4. Uh-oh
that sounds really bad. To know you will be hurt but still can't leave her alone. But partly it sounds like she feels the same. Sometimes feelings are way stronger than reason.

Whatever you decide to do ... stay true to yourself.

5. yeah, it is really bad
I've tried to leave her alone. I even went to her house for New Years and hung out with her friends and her boyfriend, just to try to be friends, but she was kind of over-affectionate, so I got kind of freaked out (even though I liked it). It was just this weekend that she basically told me that she felt the same way.... good in same ways, but also tough. I've been in her position before, and I know what I did. I know that I hurt someone very badly, but I also know that I made the right choice. She said that she has to think about it, which I understand. She and I are both going through hard times right now without having to deal with this, but we also make each other happy, which sort of makes it easier to deal with, but also complicates things. Ugh! Sometimes I wish I weren't such a gentleman in these situations, but of course if I wasn't I probably wouldn't have the romantic feelings that I do, so it wouldn't matter. I don't want to have anything to do with infidelity, but I also know what I want, but now that my choice has been made, it's up to someone else to decide if I get it.

71. Thanks, that's what I think too.
She needs to decide what she wants to do with her life, and she should probably make that decision based on a world where I'm not a factor. If I was, I think I would feel really really bad, but I still know what I'd like her to decide.

6. I HATE it when people tell me they're going to do someting and they don't.
Drives me crazy.

But how mad can you get with such a beautiful batch of kitties?

My whole superbowl party backed out on me at the last minute today. And I spent like a hundred bucks for sandwiches and beer and chips - I had a whole thing going on, and they just backed out on me at the last minute.

God, I was sooooo pissed.

But look at those kitties.

Man, I have to get myself another cat.

7. Oh man, that really sucks
I am sorry that you got into that situation. At least I didn't spend money on the guy ... I just find it very unfair of someone to not at least call or send a text message to let me know. So much for respect ....

The kitties aren't living with me unfortunately ... they live with AirmensMom. The buff colored is my baby though. I fell in love with him when I visited AirmensMom and she was so kind to give him a home.
I need to get myself a kitty here in Germany. The yearning is sometimes really hard to deal with.

Really, I appreciate your hugs and kisses.

I am feeling so rejected tonight.

I thought these people were my friends.

Knowing is half the battle I guess.

Those kitties are all so beautiful.

My cat died almost a year ago.

I had to put him down. He died in my arms.

Froze me up.

It's time.

I'm going to get another one. I'm going to rescue one from a shelter.

People suck. for the most part.

Wish there were more like you.

yes, sometimes knowing is the biggest part. Did they give a bullshit excuse or a real excuse. Either way, it really really sucks. And you have all right to feel rejected. Even though it is an awful feeling.
I am glad I could go out for a drink with my friend. And another friend called me and gave me support. Those are the friends you can rely on.

Losing a kitty is always hard. We had to put down my last cat 4 years ago. She died in my arms as well. It was tough for me too. Even though she lived with my mom she was my cat. I picked her out when she was a kitten, I took care of her till 1994 (she was born in 1989) when she moved in with my mom (I didn't have a chance to keep her myself with me being in the U.S. as nanny). I still miss her.

12. That second pic is awesome. And thanks for letting me vent
Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 05:58 AM by Skip Intro

No, they didn't call, I called them an hour after they were supposed to be here. Well, I had two other guys on waiting, like me, on these assholes - we were all supposed to play some poker until the game came on. And these two, the two who backed out on me - I called and called and got no answer. I called one of the guy's houses and his wife told me that he was at the other one's house. He eventually called me back and said he was too sick to do anything. So I went over there - and there they were playing video games. Oh man, I just feel like a friendship or two ended tonight. I'm not going to be jerked around like that. I'm just not.

So I told them both to have a good one, and I left as quickly as I got there.

Damn, I thought those guys were my friends. I thought they respected me as much as I did them.

Fucked up situation.

Rips a hole in my heart.

Anyway...

I love those pics of your cat. What a sweetie.

Makes me realize I need another one.

I miss my Hamilton dearly, but it's been almost a year.

He'll never be replaced.

But it is time for a new cat.

I want to rescue one from a shelter.

Look, I don't know who you are, but you have really helped me out tonight. Know that.

Thanks.

so that I can see most of the Northern foot hills of NC. Some days all you can hear are deer walking in the valley below and some nights you can see every twinkle of every star. It's supposed to snow up there this week and I'm hoping i get snowed in with just me, the fire place, and the view. I'll look for your sweet "good mornings" when I get back next week.

He hasn't contacted you at all?? :nuke:

I have read both the Hosseini books, they are terrific.

My girls night out was, well, they had a terrific time. Me, I had a fibromyalgia flare-up and stayed home. I enjoyed their facebook updates throughout the night, and the person who volunteered to drive was shocked that they ended up closing the pub and then going to a dance club after that.

Simon looks as handsome as ever...

Sorry to hear about your mover guy, but if he's that inconsiderate, it's good to know from the start. Glad you had the opportunity to go out and that your friends are so supportive.

I've read both Hosseini's books, and loved them both. I refuse to see the movie Kite Runner b/c the young boys (along with their families) in the movie had to leave Afghanistan and flee for their lives. At first Paramount helped them financially, but then backed out.

Went with friends to see Milk. Great movie, and I highly recommend seeing it. Sean Penn did an excellent job portraying Harvey Milk, and the rest of the cast was great too.

Nice to see Airmensmom's cats. They all look so happy and well cared for.

Yeah, better now than before I put in more feelings. I am disappointed. He didn't seem to be such a guy ... but then again ... he is a man .... easier to run away than being truthful.

I hope one day the Afghan people can live in peaceful land. They deserve it. Those books touch me on a deep level.

40. I wholeheartedly agree with your
comment concerning the Afghan people. I must admit that I did not know too much about their culture before I read these books. Their culture is very fascinating, and it was extremely interesting learning about the different sects. Another good book is The Bookseller of Kabul by Asne Seierstad. http://www.amazon.com/Bookseller-Kabul-Asne-Seierstad/dp/0316734500

Please don't waste any more of your valuable time on the moving guy. It's his loss. He has missed out of meeting someone very nice, compassionate, giving, and intelligent.

You know? I just don't feel like going into work today, but I know I must. Hopefully my attitude won't spill into my work day, or at the very least, I hope that I can hide it. *sigh*

I think that would be the only excuse I could accept. Everything else will be a bullshit exuse.

Did you get into the language of the books? :hi:

:loveya:  :hi:

45. only because I had to.
can't say the writing is that inspiring. But the actual content is, so that sort of makes up for the awful writing. :D

I think death (in the family) or severe illness are the only two excuses I would accept. What a shame. He sounded cool.

49. Ah yes ...
I remember in school I had to read "Wallenstein" by Friedrich von Schiller. I fell asleep every time I tried to read that darn thing. For my finals I decided to skip Wallenstein and concentrate on other topics (we had a choice which question we want to answer).

He really sounded like a cool and interesting guy. Who knows what threw him off. I told him about me like it was, no games, no cover-up.
Oh well, if he can't deal with it, his loss.

51. totally his loss.
You're too cool for him :D

I'm almost done with the reading for next class - I only have about 80 pages left, which hopefully I can finish tonight. Then I get to watch movies, which is much more fun. :)

53. I think it was actually around 600 -700 pages of required reading
but there was about 150 that I think the prof. expected us to read, even though it wasn't on the syllabus, so I read that as well. It was actually the most interesting because the author is so far off the mark that I could spend the whole time refuting him in my head. Which was fun.

I know that as soon as I'm back in the swing of this whole school thing, it won't be so bad. I've just been out of college for a few years, so this is an adjustment.

So, do you have any fun plans for this week?

54. Oh, that is a lot of reading
especially in that crazy off the wall language x(

Well, today after work they will show a couple of TV documentaries about our house in a "long movie night". That ought to be fun. Other than that no real plans. I will see what comes up, most likely I will be home in the evening, doing something there. Still have to unpack my home-office boxes.

47. Mornin' MissH
I had a very relaxing weekend. So relaxing, in fact, that I slept through most of it. That happens to me every once in a while at this time of year. The winter weather really stresses me out and I can't sleep much through the week. Then when the weekend rolls around I crash. It looks good for the coming week, however. It might snow a little one day and that's it.

I'm sorry you got stood up. That happened to me, too, not long ago. It made me swear off the dating scene for a while. I had been out on a date with her once before and everything went well. I was all prepared for our second date and she never showed. She later made up some lame excuse about losing her cell phone. I haven't heard from her since then. I would have felt much better about the whole thing if she just would have said, "You're not my type."

50. Good morning Droopy
I read about that. What a stupid woman. Her loss, not yours. But she could have saved you the pain. I don't understand why people can't be honest and say "look, you are a good and nice person but I don't think it will work between us". No, just disappearing is so much easier :eyes:
