Who's Jennifer Hudson, and why was yesterday her first public appearance but she has fans?

I'm watching The Today show and they mentioned both "in her first public performance" and then a few seconds later talked about how many fans she has.

How could she have fans if she's never sung publicly?

How could she get a Super Bowl gig if she's not super famous?

I've never heard of her. Have no idea who she is.

Is she daughter of the NFL CEO? Or what?
