4. What does "kwassa" mean?
Vampire Weekend has a song called "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa."

11. Kwassa Kwassa is a dance
Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 12:50 PM by kwassa
from African soukous music.

it is a slang form of "quoi ca, quoi ca" or "what's that? what's that?" en francaise.

the Vampire Weekend piece has nothing to do with it, actually. Neither soukous nor kwassa kwassa dance.

A great soukous song without much visually. Turn it up loud.

16. I had one many years ago
I had it done by an endodontist because I had heard too many horror stories from those who had a root canal done by their regular dentist. It was pretty much a non-event. It was over in 30 minutes or so and I've had no pain, infections, or problems with it for many years.

The expense did hurt though. After that I resolved to go to the dentist twice per year and take better care of my teeth. I've had no cavities or dental problems in almost 20 years. It's much cheaper to maintain your teeth than fix them after the damage has been done.

5. I love my endodontist...
he's a peach and he's never hurt me once...and he's cheap. Also, he hands out hydrocodone like candy...which isn't to say he's a pushover. The last time I was in, a guy came in pill-seeking and he told him that if he was in that much pain to check into the hospital because he wasn't giving him a refill without supervised distribution.

That's logical to me, someone in pain would jump at that offer, a pill-seeker would not.

6. I guess the wrong kind.
It is a finesse procedure and really ought to be painless or nearly so. I've had pain from regular dentists doing RTC, but not from endodontists. The only exception was this asshole student I had who really had not business being a doctor.

15. Oh yeah
The only root canal I ever had was a nightmare. It was done at the local dental school: I didn't learn til later that local anesthetic frequently doesn't "take" in the presence of a severe infection.

The guy did a really good job according to other dentists who've seen my X-rays, but I think I'd rather shoot myself than go through that again.

Being poor sucks.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOtMizMQ6oM

When I was younger, just a bad little kid
My mama noticed funny things I did
Like shooting puppies with a B.B. gun
I'd poison guppies and when I was done
I'd find a pussycat and bash in its head
That's when my mama said
(What did she say?)

She said, "My boy, I think someday
You'll find a way to make your natural tendencies pay

You'll be a dentist
You have a talent for causing things pain
Son, be a dentist
People will pay you to be inhumane
Your temperament's wrong for the priesthood
And teaching would suit you still less
Son, be a dentist
You'll be a success."

(Here he is, folks the leader of the plaque! Watch him suck up that gas! Oh, my god! He's a dentist and he'll never ever be any good. Who wants their teeth done by the Marquis de Sade?)
(Oh that hurts! Wait! I'm not numb!)

Oh, shut up. Open wide. here I come!
I am your dentist
And I enjoy the career that I picked
I am your dentist
And I get off on the pain I inflict
I thrill when I drill a bicuspid
It's swell though they tell me I'm mad

And though it may cause my patients distress
Somewhere in heaven above me, I know that my mama's proud of me
Oh, mama!
'Cause I'm a dentist...and a success
Say ah. (Ah!) Say ah! (Ah!) Say AHH! (AHH!)

Now...spit!

10. One who knows where is bread is buttered.
Truth be told, the last two root canals I had felt no different from any other visit to the dentist. They're not as painful as they used to be.

14. I had two root canals.
They were caused by cracked fillings (GRR!! I hate Hg fillings!)

I wanted to get rid of all infections and Hg in my mouth. So I had the teeth pulled and got a bridge. The dentist who pulled them rinsed out the roots and said there were anaerobic bacteria at the root tips because they don't sterilize them.

I had an anaerobic infection in my jaw for years and didn't know it. She also pulled out an infected ligament from having my wisdom teeth pulled in 1973.

:banghead:

Damn dentists need to get in the 21st century.
