I wish I was locked into a $600,000 house! :P Really, I can't relate to your situation at all. Maybe someday! However, if you're really interested in living closer to Boston, you can check out my hometown or one of the smaller towns north of Boston. You're within striking distance to the city, and you can probably pay cash for a house with the profit you pull out of your current home. There's a lot of nice properties in my area around $300k and up. In my city, $300k would get you a pretty nice spread and Boston's only 45 minutes away. Taxes up here may not be as bad as you think, though definitely more than $1100/yr! Good deal! If you have any questions about the area north of Boston I could probably give you advice and town specifics. It's always fun to window shop on realtor.com!
