Jan. 1989 I moved to Texas... temporarily |
|
I just realized it's been 20 years.
Tell me to breathe normally, please...
I think I'm hyperventilating.
:-(

For some reason, I always thought you got here after me.
Anyway, after reading about Longhorn, this all seems so stupid. I wish I hadn't posted it.

14. i moved to texas, .... temporarily, in '89 too, lol and here i sit |
|
i am afraid i will be buried here. the upside.... my husband (why i got stuck here, i married a texan) told me the other day, talking about our future, that he didnt think i could last much longer before going totally nuts so is looking at retirement in colorado or something.
couple years ago i realized i had been here about 17 years. my, heart literally started beating out of my chest (kinda like yours, lol) and hyperventilating like you, ... bah hahahhaha, and i asked hubby how long before i become a texan. he assured me i would NEVER become a texan. people still say "you arent from around here are you?". so that makes me feel better.
that is funny. didnt realize it was two decades.
thanks a whole helluva lot

I've lived here all my life. That started in 1955.
And I've never lived anywhere else.
Yes, there are other places that are more liberal but I don't have a good reason to leave.

If you're ever up here, contact me. I've got to warn you, though, I've been promising to get together with another DUer for quite some time & we never end up meeting... I can actually be pretty shy when it comes to things like that (I know that will be difficult for many of you to believe). :hi:

27. We lived in California for a couple of years. |

To crowded, and expensive. I missed the changes in season, and the thunderstorms. And the Texas sunsets. There is just something about a Texas sunset, that even beats a sunset on the Pacific. I just think there is more sky here, that is weird but to me there is more sky here. Nothing beats small town Texas. I missed being waved at as I drove down the highway, even when I lived in the DFW area I missed a friendly wave as I went down the road from passing motorist. I always knew when I was close to home, people started to wave.

Nice, laid back place to live. Not as bad as the commonly-held stereotypes which mostly apply to the rural areas of the state. Low cost of living, lots of big cities, diverse population. And it has Austin.

Sorry. Didn't mean to bash it. I think one reason I miss So. California so much is because both my younger sisters live there. Can't convince my husband that we could survive, financially, if we moved there (or Hawaii, of course).

40. The only reason we moved to San Diego was the fact that we had family there. |
|
But after 2 years I wanted to come home. I jumped at the chance to move back. And I am glad I did, right after we left the deregulated the electric companies and my in-laws electric bill nearly doubled or more. And with our commute and then that on top, we would have scrapped by. Plus, I missed the storms.

At least Austin is blue so I'm not sure I know the depression that comes from living in the "real" Texas. I love it here.

I even found my husband a job, in El Segundo (CA), once. But just when I almost had him convinced to move, my company closed their doors in Los Angeles. :-( That's as close as I've ever gotten to convincing him we could do it.

It never snows, I talk to my neighbors almost every day, my job looks like it will last at least a year or more, and I can get Shiner Bock and Dripping Springs Vodka almost everywhere. Don't get me started on the food....
