Pliny the Younger! Pliny the Younger!

OK - Russian River Brewing, my favorite brewer if you read my posts, has released their annual batch of Pliny the Younger. "What is Pliny the Younger?" you may ask...well, its a beer. But not just a beer - quite possibly the greatest IPA ever brewed on the face of the Earth. It's 10%, but as smooth as a 5% beer...it is a brewer's liquid poem to the hop. When fresh, it tastes like cannabis, florals, grass, pine, grapefruit juice - really hard to explain. But even if you don't like bitter beer, this will knock your socks off. You see, unlike some IPA's that just try and be more bitter, this one tries to get as much hop floral character as you can get. And so it does...

1. So I have to schlep up to Philly to sample this miracle?
Is it worth a 90 mile drive?

2. It would be, but you probably won't find this on the Eastern Seaboard :(

The furthest I know of them making East is Chicago...

I would send you some if I knew how...

3. Their Web Site says it's available in Philly.....I'll let the east coasters know whether that's true
We do have Dogfish Head though, and they make three very fine IPAs...

4. Yes, yes Dogfish Head makes some AMAZING IPA's
120 min, 90 min, 60 min as well as tons of others (Burton Baton) that don't list themselves as such.

If they serve this in Philly, DEFINITELY chase it down.

Just 1 pint of this stuff is enough to make live worth living again!

6. Well that would be a good thing...to drink a growler of Pliny the Younger at Pompeii
I forgot - did he die at, or survive Mt Vesuvius?

9. I heard (correct me if I'm wrong) that most people died because
The small volcanic pebbles were falling and they thought the worst was over and they went to bed.

Slowly, they suffocated to death...

11. I would die of Alcohol poisoning if I were to drink a growler of Pliny the Younger
64 oz of 10% beer, with only a small residual going to the wife...means...wow!
