Valentine's Day is just around the corner and you know what I hate? |
|
Those Goddamned "Vermont Teddy Bear" commercials.
Give me a fucking break.
Apparently, from the commercials set up, women are over-emotional adult children who are swayed by manufactured trinkets from their whipped boyfriends, which have absolutely no idea how to figure out what to give to their women.
This bullshit makes me want to break my TV.
Commercials suck.

1. I don't have a sweetie right now |
|
But believe me, if some guy gave me a Teddy Bear instead of a coupon for a free massage and a new set of tires he'd be in the doghouse for weeks.

What woman would turn down a spa coupon? NONE.
Suck ass teddy bear.
And the tires, damn skippy, the tires rock. A nice set of all weather Firestones for ya.!

well, I wouldn't turn it down but I would probably give it to someone else. I would have no clue what to do at a spa.

I do love teddy bears though. One of the best gifts I ever got, actually... and if he got me another, I'd love it, too. :)

I gave my wife a new set of tires for Christmas for her Escape. Now I'm trying to figure out what to give her. She doesn't like spas.

Roses die, and I do too much work around the house to feel comfortable getting jewelery I would only wear once or twice a year.
You want to make my day? Get me some stainless steel cookware, or a nice comfy pair of PJ's (satin please), get me a watch (NOT an expensive one, I break mine alot hitting things by accident)
Heck, get me a movie with some micro popcorn (Kettle) and make arrangments to snuggle on the couch.
A teddy bear would be really nice too. Or a little 10 dollar bell for my collection.
Uhm (thinks)
Help clean up the house as a present...that would go ALOT farther than anything expensive. Rub my back maybe instead, or even write me a letter.
I'm not too picky, as long as it's something I can use. Hubby got me a spa certificate once, It was some of the most uncomfortable hours of my life. I put it right up there with the exposure of childbirth

8. What? You mean women AREN'T over-emotional adult children? |
|
:wow:
Seriously, though, you are quite right, and I hate it when women are portrayed that way (and when men are portrayed like idiots who have to "buy" time/attention/sex from the women).
Teddy bear? Feh. Gimme a spa coupon, a bookstore coupon, cook me a fine meal, or anything like that. Just leave the teddy bears to the children.

Actually, I'm in the camp that feels that any gift from your SO is wonderful...as long as it's done with love...
The personal gift is beyond measure...
Haven't seen those commercials, and I suspect I would agree with you...

10. I hate the assumption that the only thing any woman could possibly want in life |
|
is lots of diamond jewelry. Hate diamonds, jewelry is cool but pretty low on my list of priorities.
Oh, and those same ads imply that buying your woman appliances, gadgets or tools would be cause for divorce. I can think of at least 50 appliances, gadgets and tools that I'd rather have than diamond jewelry.
