6. Your sermon is three days long? |
|
I realize I'm an outsider here, but if you confined your speech to twenty minutes or so on Sunday morning, your attendance might improve.

9. No "going to hell" stuff. Ever. Not in my sermons. |
|
But the other stuff, mostly.

10. Hope you've got a good pension plan. |

I met a retired minister in the bread isle at Publix yesterday. He was looking for the largest and cheapest loaf he could find. Long story short, after a brief conversation about his circumstances, I took his phone # and called him back with info about the local Angelfood network and distribution center, which is, ironically, located in a church across the street from Publix.

12. I thought I had a good pension plan, but a retired pastor who |
|
belongs to my church told me last week about a letter he'd just gotten from the Conference. Retired clergy's pension payments are being cut by 30%, at least for a while, due to the drops in the stock market. And, of course, my own pension fund has dropped, but I won't need it for 17 years, so I haven't been worried...until now. I've talked to my Mission chair and chair of Trustees, and have gotten permission to help both of the two retired pastors in our congregation as much as we can.

I have a pretty important presentation to give in late April that I was kind of freaking out today, because I have a concert the weekend before, so how could I possibly finish it?! As my friend pointed out, I could just do it ahead of time. pffffft.
