Any fans of "Arrested Development" here? |
|
I must be the un-hippest, most isolated, head-in-the-sand person in the world. I had never even HEARD of Arrested Development until a month ago when I heard the show's creator on NPR. I've been watching all the episodes on hulu http://www.hulu.com/arrested-developmentI think it's one of the most hilarious shows that I'd never seen. I'll be interested to see how the movie version comes together.

1. Yes. It is (was) one of my most favorite shows ever. |
|
I was so sad to see it die.
I'm looking forward to the movie, but dreading that it might be dreadful.

3. It's a shame what they did to the show |
|
The way the network would change things this way and that way in the middle of whatever was going on. But then the writers would work that reality into the show, which was funny.
Still love the show. Franklin is great. The Portugal being in South America joke still gets me every time. And you forgot to say away.

21. They would cut the amount of shows per season half way through a season |
|
So when Michael is talking about building X amount of homes on the phone with someone, he'd say something about having the order for homes cut back. Not sure how far you've gotten, but later in season 3, George Michael brings up how long he's had feeling for Maeby, and it ties into the show's life. Or when there were rumors about the show going to cable.
Also, they always had those double meaning words/phrases. Stuff like, "and this is your cousin, Maeby."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBdLJ7Pox9YSometimes you really have to pay attention with this show. It's crazy. Plenty of good moments in season 3. Justine Bateman was good. In the last few episodes, the writers go off on a few rants, but then also look at their own show and how it didn't connect with people. Gob and Franklin, I think, have their best moments. It all ties together eventually. And again, remember to say away.

45. Yeah interesting note about the "S.O.B.s" episode |
|
Is that Fox had promised AD would get a full third season after the way they had treated the second, but it got cut after the sixth episode ("The Ocean Walker") to make room on the schedule for Prison Break, and the producers wrote that into the show (see episode "Prison Break In") for full comedy effect. By the time that they found out that the show was going to be cancelled they had already been made aware of the show's huge following on the internet and tried a last-ditch campaign with the networks and that was where the S.O.B.s (Save Our Bluths) episode came in and they basically wrote that episode as a way to plead with the Fox execs or the execs on another network to continue the show. But they didnt and instead burned off the remaining four episodes after that on one night.

The beauty of the show is that they don't over-explain the jokes. You have to pay attention and use your brain to get the more subtle jokes. That's why it wasn't very popular - you have to pay attention.

Tobias Fünke: O-kay, who'd like a banger in the mouth?
Tobias Fünke: Right, I forgot, here in the States, you call it a *sausage* in the mouth. Michael: We just call it a sausage.
--------------------------
Tobias Fünke: Michael, you are quite the cupid. You can stick an arrow in my buttocks any time.
-------------------------- Tobias Fünke: Okay, Lindsay, are you forgetting that I was a professional twice over - an analyst and a therapist. The world's first analrapist
-------------------------- Tobias Fünke: So what are your plans for this evening? Bob Loblaw: I thought that maybe I would stay in and work on my law blog. Tobias Fünke: Ah, yes. The "Bob Loblaw Law Blog". You, sir, are a mouthful.
---------------------------
Tobias Fünke: Boy, I sure feel like a Mary without a Peter and a Paul.
---------------------------
Publicist: There are very few intelligent, attractive and straight men in this town. Tobias Fünke: Well, that leaves me out. Tobias Fünke: She did say single, right? I-I-I thought she said single.
----------------------------
Tobias Fünke: I can picture the look on Lindsay's face right now. "Where's Tobias?". Oh, he's just on a weekend getaway with Michael Bluth and they're dipping each other in... hey, you didn't get any body chocolate. ---------------------------
Transvestite Store Clerk: Are you going to actually buy something this time, or are you just curious? Tobias Fünke: Well, let's just say that I'm buy-curious.
----------------------------
Narrator: Tobias listens to a day's worth of his own words, to see what Michael was referring to... Tobias Fünke: ... even if it means me taking a chubby, I will suck it up. Tobias Fünke: Nothing wrong with that. Tobias Fünke: Oh, I've been in the film business for a while, but I just can't seem to get one in the can. Tobias Fünke: It's out of context. Tobias Fünke: I wouldn't mind kissing that man between the cheeks. Narrator: ...and he realized there is something distinct about the way he speaks. Tobias Fünke: Tobias, you blowhard.

Gob: No.
Michael: What do you want?
Gob: I mean, it's not about money in the sense that I'm coming here saying, "Here, Michael. Take some money." It's just more of a "may I have some" kind of visit.

60. And Dr. Fishman's bedside manner: |
|
Dr. Fishman: It ... it looks like he's dead.
Gob: Oh little guy! The tears aren't comin'! the tears just aren't commin'!
Michael:Just to be clear. Looks like he’s dead, or he IS dead?
Dr. Fishman: It just looks like he’s dead. He’s got, like, blue paint on him or something. But he’s going to be fine.
------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Fishman: Yes, he’s lost his left hand. So he’s going to be “all right.”
Lucille: You son of a bitch. I hate this doctor!
Lindsay: How do we keep getting this guy?
Michael: Mom, he’s a very literal man.
Dr. Fishman: Yes, that’s more the way I would take the news.

I love that Scott Baio is replacing Henry Winkler as the lawyer.

Michael: Well you certainly havent been shopping. The only thing I found in the freezer was a dead dove in a bag.
GOB: You didnt eat that dove did you? I've only got a couple of days left to return it. Died right in the middle of a show.
*shows GOB at the pet store*
Clerk: Are you sure you dont need a cage?
GOB: No, I'm a magician.
*sticks bird in pocket, runs into door, bird stops crowing*
GOB: What is your return policy by the way?

I can, and do, watch the episodes over and over (hurrah for Hulu). It makes me SICK that an excellent show like AD got cancelled and bad sitcoms like that Charlie Sheen POS go on and on and on.... ETA another great site gag from AD:

77. OMG!!!! I never noticed that before! |

That's one of the great things about AD - there's enough sight gags and subtleties in the jokes that it keeps you watching over and over.

I just got to the part where George Sr. finds Ahn-young in the wall. I was wondering where he was for all of Season 2.
