How often do you bathe/shower? |
|
What is the longest time you have gone without showering or bathing? For me it was probably 5 days when I had a very bad cold and could barely move.
Do you think it's nasty that I admit to showering only every other day in the winter if I am not working? I don't stank, so...

I was told by my allergist I am to have a full-immersion bath/shower with lukewarm water only once a week! The rest of the time it's a "whores bath" (thank you Mike Meyers!) for me. :D I also have to be super careful about the shampoos/soaps I use. It is really OK most of the time -- I am not a big sweater, nor do I engage in activities that get me grungied up to much. My skin flare-ups have been radically reduced, which makes me very happy.

Sometimes he won’t shower on weekends, especially in winter. I really can’t stand to go more that a day. One time I was really laid up bad, and when I finally did shower, dead skin cells just rolled off of me, ick. Even when we camp, I use wipes for what is fondly referred to as a French bath.

I mean, if you live in the Deep South where it's humid as hell, then I guess I could understand.
Me, it was zero this morning and I wasn't feeling a shower. I also have very dry skin and scalp. My hair is very thick and coarse and looks way better if I skip a day.

the longest I've ever been? Probably 6 or 7 days on an extended camping trip with no facilities. I was positively rank by the end of it, and would not consider a repeat-performance of that trip.

|
I got my ass to the hospital, in kidney failure, and by the time they got me into a bed I was comatose for the next 3 days. I had family visitors, but I do not remember that.
After 3 days, I had to stand up once a day. All I remember is that my legs could not hold me. After 6 days, I said, I need a bath! I smelled like a goat!
I could elaborate, but I think I answered your question. Every other day?? Pffft! Get a REAL problem.

There is a company that makes high-end (if you'll pardon the pun) toilet seatc for a regular toilet--heated seat and built in bidet jet!

That's nowadays, though. When I was down at UC Santa Cruz (graduated 2007) I would routinely go 2 or 3 days without showering, and as much as 4 or 5 on a couple of occasions, which is probably close to my personal record. Grosses me out a little to even think about it now...

Longest I've gone...prolly four days when I was camping in the Adirondacks. When my BF (later to be Mr. MG), our two friends, and I reentered civilization and went to a near-empty restaurant, we recommended to the waitress that she seat us in a far corner of the restaurant because we smelled so bad. She complied. We ate a lot of food and gave her a really good tip.

Two weeks! ;)
But everyone else went that long as well. So it didn't matter. LOL.
We were camping. Probably dipped into a river or swimming hole somewhere. It was so many years ago, I can't remember. I DO remember it being very cold in a lot of places, so I doubt we went swimming much. We were on motorcycles, so we didn't exactly have a lot of room for supplies like soap and shampoo.
Ahhh, I miss the good old days.

That is SO funny, and SO true. :)
I have been camping since I was six months old! I'm pretty darned used to not showering/bathing. (And I do mean 'camping', not 'housing' with an RV. RV's don't count.) ;) Tents barely count. And only when it rains.
Anyway, I LOVE to camp. I had a boyfriend who had to have two showers a day. TWO. WHY? He was a lawyer. He didn't work up a sweat unless it was to tie his tie! I tried and tried and tried to get him to go camping on our vacations. You think it worked? Nah. I got him to DRIVE through Yosemite National Park one time. He was flabbergasted at the beauty. But he STILL wouldn't go camping.
TWO showers a day? WHY????
(I would have paid big bucks to see him try to shampoo his hair in a little faucet coming out of the ground in the campground. LOL!)

I am on a ranch where water is sometimes in short supply so I tend to go 3 days or so unless I am going to town. (or really filthy) I only wash my hair once a week or ten days. Have gone longer when required. Oddly, as dirty as I can get out here and as much as one feels obligated to be clean when going into civilization - after a trip to town is when I feel the grossest. City grime is much more irritating to my "need to get clean" nerves.

I'm a clean freak when it comes to my body. I might turn my room into a pig sty just by being there, but I'm too much of a bubble bath worshiper to go very long without it. I practically want to spend eternity taking a bubble bath. Just mix my ashes with some Johnson's & Johnson's Lavender and Chamomile Sleepy Time baby bath and some Epsom Salts and float us out to sea together. I'll be happy.

53. I alternate between the 2 showers a day and the once every couple. |
|
I realize i am unusual but i do not think it is healthy or necessary to shower everyday, on a physical level. On an emotional level it can be. When i am in the mood to shower excessively it is usually for some reason other than hygiene (ie. comfort, warmth, escape) Otherwise i can go a day or two between. If i shower more than this in the winter my skin pays. Not to mention is fast becoming environmentally unsound to participate in excessive hygeine.
It amazes me what some people consider unclean. I am very into smells and i think things like slight BO smell on a man is amazing. I love the smell of a sweaty baby head in the summer. The smell fresh dirt on skin has a calming affect on me. I love so many smells that others might find offensive. I wonder why that is.
I think that our bodies function best when we allow them a minute to do their thing.

Longest Ive gone without bathing? I did 2 weeks once while I was doing archaeology in the UK. We had only outdoor bathing facilities, and the June I was there was very cold and rainy. So, we picked a buddy and did a daily stink check. If yer buddy said you stank, it was outdoor, cold-water showering for you. Ahhh... good times.
