Poll question: Worst third installment in a movie series
For every success story (LOTR: Return of the King), there are a slew of third installments noted for ushering in a descent in quality. Which was the worst?

1. Jaws 3D
Hands down, even worse than Godfather III, if you can believe that.

The hokey 3D effects made it even worse.

2. Matrix 3
Matrix 2 wasn't that great either but Matrix Revolutions was even worse.

3. Godfather III, easily.
The first two are in the top ten films ever made. The third is a complete and utter disaster.

4. I barely remember Terminator 3, but I remember really disliking it.
The first two set the bar too high.

Of those mentioned in the OP and poll, the Godfather one is the only one I've seen. I didn't think Godfather III was too terribly good, either.

8. Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade doesnt count?
Although the suckfest that is Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull eclipses it by a mile.

9. Robocop III was the worst of the series
And that's really saying something, because Robocop II was putrid.

13. I would actually go with Return of the King, personally
The first two took my breath away. The third felt like it was trying to strike too much of a pathos chord.

I went with The Godfather: Part III, though in all fairness I hear Coppola did it because of financial woes.

16. Matrix 3.
It was supposed to explain everything but it explained nothing and made things even more confusing. I absolutely loved the original Matrix but after the last one my opinion of the whole franchise soured.

20. I think it's amusing how DEEEEEP the first film was considered to be when it was made
By film 3, people weren't saying that so much.

It would have been better to just leave the first film alone.

Hands down, that was the worst movie I have ever seen with such a good name attached to it.

19. Smokey and the Bandit 3
The first is a classic. The second was passable. The third was a crime against humanity. Just awful. It ruined the franchise. It was so bad it made me appreciate Burt Reynolds' skills as an actor.
