When Do You Replace Car Belts & Hoses?
How long would you expect car belts & hoses to last? My car is a 1995 model with all the original belts & hoses. A mechanic put a note into a bill receipt for another service stating that these should be replaced.
The belts & hoses don't appear to have a thing wrong with them visually. Do you think this is a legitimate concern, or are they just trying to make a buck?

Thanks

2. If you trust your mechanic, compare the cost to that of being stuck on the side of the road.
Been there, done that. It isn't fun.

3. Not all mechanics are crooks.
I think I would trust mine on this, not an expensive fix.

5. It's past time for your car.
It's almost 15 years old, and still has the original hoses and belts? Uff da!

You can do it yourself, if you're a handy sort. Serpentine belts are tougher, but I do those too.

Or, you can have them done. But, you don't want to be beside the road in the winter, and a blown hose can ruin your engine pretty quickly if you don't notice it overheating.
