:hi: I was born in Richmond, but my family moved to the Shenandoah Valley when I was about 6 months old. When I went off to college, I met a guy from Richmond and we ended up being great friends...turns out we were actually born in the same hospital, just a few months apart. :)

My father was assigned to the USS Arcturus, which was homeported at Norfolk. He was sent to Vietnam as a naval gunfire officer in 1968, and my mother and I headed back to Massachusetts.

43. The Blue Ridge/Shenandoah region is beautiful
I also had some good times growing up in Virginia Beach in the 70's and 80's. I have discovered since leaving there that the Tidewater region is where I can trace my earliest American ancestors, from the early 1700's.

Throw in Monticello, and the rich history of the Civil War and Revolutionary War battelfields, and Virginia defines much of U.S. history.

45. Sharyn McCrumb
who is to authors, well, what DU is to web sites.

http://www.sharynmccrumb.com

There have been rumors that she's a heavy-duty right-wing pig, which, if true, would create the classic approach-avoidance conflict for me. However, from what I have been able to glean from her writings, I would describe her political views as being of the "a pox on both their houses" variety.

46. I was born there...
we lived there until 2001. Grew up in Virginia Beach, moved to Newport News after dh and I got married. We eventually moved to the Woodstock area (Shenandoah Valley) when the kids began to come.

My favorite parts are the Red Bud which blooms along the Parkway, driving across 211 to meet my sister to go pick apples. Nothing like fresh VA apples!! I miss the four seasons (we're in NE FL now), occasional snow, gorgeous spring and awesome fall.

I miss riding our bikes through Williamsburg on the Parkway when the leaves have turned. Natural Bridge is something not miss, either.

I also miss riding out to visit my soon-to-be-husband at VA Tech and Hokie pride. :D

Born and raised in Clifton Forge (near Roanoke) in the Alleghany Mountains near the headwaters of the James River. Got my BSN at George Mason University, was stationed at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth(go figure). My body is presently residing in SC, but my HEART is now and always will be, in Va.
