So I installed Windows 7 beta - heaven help me
Used 9GB of disk space (Vista64 uses 16GB)

Task manager shows 350MB of RAM in use; default Vista64 config uses 1600MB :wow:

Snappier performance

Sidebar gadgets remain but the actual sidebar strip is gone (I got used to the strip)

Might be a worthwhile release; unless Vista SP2 does the same things - Vista users would appreciate as much. :)

2. It's growing on me too...
I don't often like mystery meat where you have to hover the mouse pointer over the icon to read the hidden text, but it's not bad.

I do like the improved shut down menu from the Start button too... AND the wallpaper slide show feature (about **** time, LOL...)

6. If they don't screw it up before the release
It's going to make Vista go the way of ME. I tried it out on a 1.9GHz single core with 1Gb RAM. All features worked just fine. The XP drivers for the motherboard installed without a glitch. I installed a bunch of non M$ apps and they all worked perfectly.

8. I suspect they ditched the Vista core, put in the XP core, and altered the graphics...
There's no other way they could so quickly do all this; and the footprint, disk space aside, is virtually identical. Indeed, I recall a folder in Vista which, by itself, consumes 4GB -- containing pre-installed local information for every country. I suppose I could have risked deleting 99% of it, but I also suspect it's in Win7 too. Hadn't looked yet.

15. But it's still a Microsoft product
The more apps you install/use/uninstall, the more bloated and slow it will get, and the more you try to tweak and streamline it, the worse it will get.

It's Microsoft!

16. I make my living straightening out Microshaft problems

My Windows system has about 12 Gigs of apps loaded but the way I've got it tweaked it boots up in about 40 seconds from power on to desktop. But that's my personal custom setup, most people don't know enough except point and click to use a system like that.
I'm running; With XP Pro X64
Phenom X3 8750 Black Edition OC to 3GHz
4Gb PC6400 Dual Channel RAM
Nvidia 8400 Gs video card
750 Gb hard drive
2 20x DVD-RW
plus assorted odds and ends like external drive, card reader, 3 printers and a scanner.

17. That sounds like an awesome system
Unfortunately, I'm just a lowly end user. I would never be able to take advantage of nor understand something like that!

9. SHITSTA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6dm9rN6oTs&eurl=http://www.americablog.com/&feature=player_embedded

I did WIN7 the first day of availability. Put it in closet for two weeks, going to drag it out during the week and see what patches came out and try some new software on it. It is a nice improvement over Shitsta

10. Now WHY did you go and do something stupid like that???
Unless you're on a hot development path and can spare a machine to be worthless for a few months, you NEVER install ANYTHING Microsoft releases as Beta and wait at least six months after the alleged "release date" before subjecting a machine to such a nightmare.

Silly move, I say.

I trust you can restore the system ;}

14. I have five systems up and running on a regular basis.
And at least 3 or 4 more sitting around that I can hook up and try things on. I'm using Windows XP Pro, XP Pro X64, Ubuntu 8.10 and 64 bit, Mandriva 2009. I have Vista on one to help me figure out customers' problems but it's usually not turned on.
