Funny thing about Star Trek II |
|
Khan died thinking that he'd won, defeating Kirk and avenging the deaths of his crew and his wife.
So in the end everybody's happy.
Except that kid from Engineering, I guess...

1. That kid from engineering can blame Scotty for his death |
|
Scotty decided to bring him to the bridge when he was critically injured instead of taking him to sickbay like a normal person would.

We were eleven, so you'd think that a seasoned officer would have been able to figure it out.

19. After much discussion fans came to the conclusion |
|
that Scotty knew from the degree of damage to Peter Preston's body that he was a goner. He had remained at his post and suffered fatal injuries. Because he was Scotty's nephew, it lent to Scotty's state of mind at the time. Peter Preston was proud of the Enterprise and called it the finest ship in the fleet. Scotty already knew that Peter was going to die and wanted to bring him to the bridge one last time.
In the expanded for TV broadcast there is this scene
Kirk stands near to Scotty's nephew. Seconds tick by until finally the young midshipman can no longer contain his pride about the state of Engineering and says, "I'm sure you'll find everything is in ship shape, Capt'n". "Oh do you?" Kirk reponds incredulously. "Do you have any idea, midshipman Preston, of the ribbing I get in the officer's mess about the Enterprise, and that it's nothing more than a flying garbage heap?" Stammering, the boy responds, "Oh no sir, the Enterprise is the finest ship in the fleet." At this point Kirk and Scotty have already locked glances and are smiling about their inside joke.
also Peter Preston has a relationship with Lt Saavik which is why she shows emotion when she sees Peter's mutilated body in Scotty's arms
My pet peave had always been...Why did it seem like Scotty was the only one in engineering with an oxygen mask?

and in space movies, extras and minor characters who die usually die a cold, sterile but instantaneous death...

8. Kirk is caught with his pants down (figuratively) and is rewarded in later movies as a hero. |
|
At least in terms of being taken off guard by the Reliant, not saving the Genesis device, et al.
Still, he's only human.

18. The funny thing about Star Trek II was... |
|
...that Khan recognized Chekhov, seeing as how Chekhov wasn't even in the TV series episode that set up the movie.
