Does anybody really like being pestered while grocery shopping? |
|
Seriously. I hate it and always try to get in and out as fast as possible. But today OMG what a friggen zoo! First of all there was a setup from some radio station (that I don't listen too) out front. There was our state senator who was handing out surveys of some sort. Why..I have no idea. Then some new branch of a bank in the store was celebrating its grand opening. OMG, reps everywhere, some sort of games of chance where you can win prizes plus people walking around handing out freebies like shopping bags if you would stop and say hello even in the parking lot! Crazy! If I had known the store was gonna be a three ring circus I would have gone elsewhere this morning...

The two stores I like best always seem to have some group out in front selling something. They are supposed to ask once and not bother people when they say no but they don't always. Once, on the way out, I politely declined an offer to buy popcorn from a cub scout (I won't support groups that discriminate and the Boy Scouts discriminate against gays) and his mother announced in a loud voice that boomed all over the parking lot "DON'T BE UPSET, HONEY, IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT SOME PEOPLE HATE KIDS." I was so furious that I called the manager the minute I got home and told him in no uncertain terms how I felt about groups harassing shoppers in this fashion, especially when they're doing their best to support local retailers. He apologized profusely and I've never seen the cub scouts there again.

2. Nah, I don't care for that, either... |

I always try to be polite to all of them, but I usually look at grocery shopping as kind of a mission that I'm just ready to be done with! That is one of the advantages to Kroger being open until 1 AM, though. There's usually not much going on the last couple of hours.

I hate going to the grocery store to begin with. In situations like you are talking about, I have been known to get in the car and drive to a store I don't normally go to JUST TO AVOID all those people in my face. Fuck that shit.
