Hey Skittles! I need my ass kicked.
I should be packing but first I have to go get boxes. I'm paralyzed by all this. Depression is raging and I'm having trouble facing all this. Not to mention, I the thought of moving - again - makes my physically ill. x(

4. No idea
I can't pay my rent in March. If I don't find a job here by the end of February, maybe I'll be lucky and have one somewhere else. Then I'll have to move to wherever that is. If I don't have a job, everything goes into storage and the cats and I drive from Milwaukee to Portland, OR to live in my parents' third bedroom. My mom has asked if I can find a home for the cats. :( Regardless, it will take a couple weeks to pack everything.

Once I go there, I'll don't see that I'll be able to leave. My parents are getting up in years and headhunters are telling my my age is a problem. I'll be stuck in a town I've never lived in. I really, really don't want to move out there. The economy is worse there than here, but if I stay here, I'll be homeless.

10. WTF, your age is a problem?
That's insane, your younger than I am. Unbelievable that someone with experience gets discriminated because of age.

12. I've worked in my profession for 25 years
I'm over-qualified and over-priced for the market. My last job? I was making $5000 less than I made in 2004. I'm willing to work for less, but placement agencies and companies assume I won't.

I need to dumb down my resume.

Experience isn't cheap and companies are going for cheap right now. It's no different than trying to sell a house. It's a buyers/employers market right now.

23. Here's a suggestion.
Edited on Sat Feb-07-09 09:33 PM by fudge stripe cookays
Knock off several years from the resume, and do NOT include any salaries if you had them on there.

Research what the average is. When they ask you how much you're willing to accept, lowball a range that you can exist on and pay the minimum on all your bills.

You're going to have to lower your standards, but it's tax time right now. There is no way you should not be able to get something, even if it's just contracting at someplace like H & R Block. Even with the economy the way it is, accountants are always necessary.

24. I have a "dumbed down" resume
I don't include salary information even if they request it. I say "negotiable". I'm applying for jobs that are 12k less than I made 5 years ago. It's the headhunters who are the problem. I'm avoiding them now.

31. I would do that.
I'm not sure why they need to know what you were making in your last positions. Just say you're negotiable.

Have you tried applying at the IRS? People diss it, and I know the economy's a lot worse than it used to be, but they almost always need good accountants. And the benefits are great.

Yes, it is awful. I think psychologically it is listed right up there with death and divorce for traumatic experience.

11. I know the feeling
If I don't get another job before the end of July, I will have no income, most likely will be moving to Tucson to live with a friend for a while while seeking work there.

I have to make this decision by April 1 in order to best weigh my options for teaching or other work here or in AZ.

Will be move #6 in five years...

am sad for you, babycakes.

What can I do to help?

17. Shoulder here for you, too
IF the timing were right, you could move to Tucson with me.
(am leaning hard on making a move back to Tucson. CA is so expensive on my own, and am pretty convinced that living here again was the wrong move altogether, with the exception of being near my son and grandkids...)

Am weary, but not giving up.

Sending you vibes of strength to get past the weariness and uncertainty.

Now get packing!
And if you still don't have a destination or place when you need it most, you and your kitties better get your respective asses down here! Have plenty of room!
Life, place, job and money can be figured out later.

Call me if you need me, or even just to talk.

I need to find a doctor. I haven't had medical insurance for over a year and the depression and panic attacks are really becoming debilitating. I think that's why I'm so paralyzed.
