Challenge: Post something you like about New York WITHOUT mentioning New York City.
As an upstater, I don't think we get enough credit. So give it a shot...something good about New York, outside of New York City.
Can you do it? :)

42. That was my first thought as well ...
... absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous in the springtime. Also mid-October anywhere along the southern tier, when the leaves are turning and the hillsides just glow.

19. Up-state NY is one of the most beautiful areas in this country in the ....
...summer-time. I used to spend a lot of summers up there in Rochester, laying on the beaches of Lake Ontario, and traveling the wine regions along the finger lakes. Beautiful area. If I had the money - which I know I never will - I'd have a summer home in up-state NY.

49. It's changed quite a bit.
You can't just park on the side of the road and hike or climb anymore. Now you have to pay to park in the designated areas that are almost always packed full. I grew up in Dutchess County, went to school at New Paltz. Met my husband, a climber, while at school. We used to cut class and spend hours out there. We got married at the Mohonk Mtn House. Those Gunks are truly a special place for us. :hi:

52. Oh, wow, awesome :)
I can't imagine how cool it was to be part of it back then... I climbed there a bit in 99-01, but even then, you had to pay to park/camp, etc. Was still fun, but I'm sure not at all the same vibe! :hi:

Ampersand, a hardcore punk band from Syracuse, was one of the greatest fucking bands of the 90s. Not to mention that the hardcore punk scene in upstate New York is the fucking greatest. Dracula Jones and Jeff Jones' latest is ALWAYS great too. They treated me like gold and I love them to this day. There's nothing like them.
