Oh my...now I HAVE to start drinking lattes
You know how we liberals are supposed to be latte-drinking, Volvo-driving tree-huggers?

Well...last week I bought one of these...

It is a 1987 Volvo 760 Turbo. Got it off a soldier who's retiring from the Army and doesn't need it anymore. Paid $500, and it runs like a top. Even the cruise control and air conditioner work. Goes like hell, too. I'm not real fond of the fact it burns premium gas, but otherwise it's great.

1. Sounds like you got a great deal
It always makes me feel good when I know I haven't paid too much for an expensive item.

I've never had a latte. Let me know how they taste. :)

3. They taste like drinking warm milk
A real cappuccino served in a 5-6 oz ceramic cup is a much better way to go. Don't look for them at Starbucks though.

6. Cappucino isn't sterotypically liberal
Then again, neither is this particular car..from the front it bears a striking resemblance to a mid-1980s Cadillac.

2. You might be able to get away with running regular gas
I know that you can in some Volvos because they have ping sensors. The computer will automatically make adjustments in timing to compensate, however your efficiency will drop off a bit so it's a bit of a trade off. 89 octane might be a good compromise.

4. Bad idea in this case. A 1987 model probably doesn't have the technology for that kind of adjusting

5. Perhaps not, but I had a friend that ran regular in a '89 turbo Volvo
With no ill effects. You'll know if you have a problem right away because you'll hear the pinging. If that happens all you need to do is add octane boost to the tank, so it's certainly worth a try.
