Surprise! A cat post.
I have an 8 month old male tabby (neutered) who I rescued from under the foundation of a friend's house when he was about 2 months old. This cat is very loving and gets along beautifully with my two dogs BUT...he eats toilet paper, shreds paper towels, overturns footstools, and steals things out of my pocketbook. Is there anything that I can do? Will it eventually end when he gets older?

2. ROTFLOL!

Seriously, all my rescues did stuff like that at first. And more. LOL!

But I found it to be a matter of getting them nourished on some decent food. My vet advised me they were missing something nourishment wise, and once they were acclimated to a routine diet they would stop that.

It worked!

I'm sorry to laugh, but my pooch did not steal things out of my pocketbook. LOL! I just thought that was funny.

He did, however, chew up all my shoes. I had to go on a job interview one day, with a bite outta my shoe. I wanted to kill the little shit!

3. This kitty got my credit cards out of the wallet in my bag. Maybe he's
planning to steal my identity and run away! :-)

8. LOL!

I can't remember the last time I have laughed so hard!

He's going to stop this kinda stuff when he gets adjusted. And mine quit chewing my shoes and paper towels and stuff after they started getting a decent diet. Just like the vet told me.

I've just never heard of one stealing credit cards, LOL!

I'd never trust that cat!

LOL!

9. Steve Martin...
"Okay! Hey, does anybody know where I can get some cat handcuffs? I've gotta get a pair of cat handcuffs. Either two little ones like this, to go around the little paws.. or a big one that hooks onto my arm and then hooks onto the cat. I found out my cat was embezzling from me, so I've gotta get a little pair.. of cat handcuffs, so.. Well, I found out that when I'm away, he goes to the mailbox, picks up the checks, take them down to the bank and cashes them. The way I caught him, I went out to his little house, where he sleeps at night, and there was like $3,000 worth of cat toys out there. And you can't return them, because they have spit all over them."

4. Yogi, as much of a sweet boy as he is, cannot
be allowed to spot a roll of paper towels or a roll of TP. If he sees it, he'll connive and scheme until he can get to it while you are not looking. He doesn't eat it, but he has a good old time ripping it to shreds. We just hide the TP and PT from him very carefully. It's all we can do. He just enjoys tearing it up as a form of play along with his "pirate" games. It's no biggie.

5. Yeah, he'll probably get over it.
My parents took in a kitten last in August 2007 and she had a shredding fetish for paper and made a huge mess (didn't do the pocketbook thing - that's bizarre - you might have a klepto kitty), but she doesn't do it anymore. Still a handful, but in a different way.

6. the answer is....
no.

Last week Manny decided that he hated the kitchen clock. So he got on top of the refrigerator stretched as far as he could and somehow knocked the thing off the wall. When I get the chance I am going to measure the cat, and compare the distance between the top of the frig with his overall length He likes shiny things, like expensive necklaces, plays a game we call run-run-slide. He has found that with the necessary velocity you can surf across the living room on the footstool. Also he likes to sing in the bathroom, at 3am, the acoustics are better in there.
shall we start a support group

10. we have one cat with a particular fetish...
we got two cats from the nyc animal shelter. here is our announcement;

now they are a bit larger.

sissie, here in her glamour shot, has the fetish.

she LOVES paper towels. if open, she shreds them. if wadded up, she will take them to her water bowl, dunk them, then drag them around the apartment, leaving a trail on the floor just like a slug would...

she will sneak around to get them, even though we try to keep her from doing it. she is incredibly smart.

they are both the light of our lives.... they provide love, and laughter galore.

12. When he gets older, he'll drink all your booze, smoke all your dope,
program the Tivo/DVR to record stuff he won't let you watch, and make a bunch of phone calls to Singapore.

At least that's what happened with my cats. :P
