The Turnaround by George Pelecanos.....good so far...
I'm about two thirds of the way through this book. Good so far. This guy is right up there with Richard Price (though his last novel Lush Life didn't grab me like his other books).

1. I have heard interviews with him on NPR and thought I might like his books
Think I should check them out?

He sounds really interesting.

3. Would encourage it...
I have not read his very earliest stuff and have read some of his mid-detective books, but his last three books, Drama City, The Night Gardener and The Turnaround, to me have shown his fiction is only going to improve. He has a way with describing things that I really like. He has this ability to kind of put you there.

5. any special order in which his books should be read? I think that is why I have
hesitated, in case they had a special sequence. I am totally OCD when it comes to reading a book series, I would rather die than read them out of order.

2. I went to high school with him
I also well remember the incident that the book is based on. I've read several of his earlier books and liked them, should probably pick this one up.

4. It's hit or miss
Some of his books are good. Others not so good.

If you grew up around DC, then he's good at painting those old times. I thought I was the only one who remembered some of that stuff.
