Vibes for my mother, if you will. She found out today that she's losing her job. |
|
She has until the end of March to find a job within her company, and if she's unsuccessful, she will probably be formally let go. This is difficult for her...she's in her early fifties and was getting close to retirement. I hope she is able to find another job within the company so that she doesn't have to start over.
I currently live at home...to be honest, it's more for family reasons than for financial...I could afford a small apartment closer to my job if need be. It may come to that. I'm not overly concerned on that front...I know a lot of people that can help me out. I'm worried about my mom and little sister. Mom has been at her current job for nearly 30 years. It's been ages since she's been in this kind of situation.
For my little sister's part, she's scared about the possibility moving, and about changes coming into her life. As you know, she's already had it rough, with the illness and death of her father. This comes not a year after her father's death, too, so vibes for her as well. It's been a rough year for the kid.

Best wishes to your mom. Any potential openings in the company that she's found?

3. Well she just found out today, so I don't know that she's looked much. |
|
She'll have someone within the company working with her to aid her.

I just lost my job last week; single mom; 40ish - haven't been out of work since I started 20 years ago. I am terrified but trying not to let it get me down. I don't want to make this post about me so just know I am thinking of all of you and hoping for the best; that your mom is able to find another position.
And BTW - Coldplay isn't so bad. ;-)

My Dad works for a hospital, the same one for many years. Now his position is on shaky ground with all the shake-ups in NY hospitals, so we're just hoping he can make it to retirement. Much luck to your mom.

20. If your mom's is in her early 50s, she has a long time yet for retirement. |
|
I lost a job at 58. I have been at my current job for 12 years. I'm now 70 and not ready to retire.

My uncle has been searching for a job. He's in his early 60s. Nobody is willing to hire someone close to retirement age. But he can't retire for several more years. He needs a job. :(
Hopefully things look much better for someone in her 50s. Hopefully she finds an internal position and it all becomes a moot point. :)

What a horrible thing, after working there for 30 years! It's probably a blessing that you are at home right now. If she hasn't suggested it, you might offer to pay rent, or just do what you can to contribute monetarily.
On the positive side, mt mom decided at age 49 to get a degree in social work. Within 3 years, she'd completed all the necessary course work and had a job. It can be done...:hug::hug:
