Would anyone like to tackle another question on modern feminism? |
|
Has postfeminism depoliticized feminist discourse, restricting it to the private sphere, and stripping it of its potency in the public sphere (where feminism tends to be ridiculed?) In doing this, does the female gaze fetishize the female object to the same degree that the male gaze fetishizes it, making the process of fetishistic scopophilia ultimately a gender-neutral phenomenon? If so, does this gender-neutral gaze blend both male and female desires into a new feminine ideal: the powerful, sexy businesswoman (as presented in Ally McBeal and Sex and the City)?

So wait, are you essentially asking: has the school of thought that holds feminism is no longer relevant driven feminist concerns from public discourse and led to the objectification of women by women as well as men (kind of the essence of fetishistic scopophilia?) and has this led to a new vision of the feminine ideal?
Hmmmmm, that could take some serious thought...
